Under Jacobs' leadership, they decided to "confront" Rhodes. Picking up about 75 more people, the group marched through Mason and Angell Halls and into the LSA Bldg., chanting "reinstate Green" and "Dump Dunn." Rhodes, waiting near the plushy- carpeted conference room, invited the protestors in, saying "I wel- come you and I appreciate your concern." Rhodes spoke to students for over an hour, but explained that he didn't want to discuss "certain detalis" of the issue, as he is Green's next appeal if the chem- istry faculty's review doesn't lead to Green's reinstatement. "My hope is still that eventually Prof. Green will be given his full teaching responsibilities," Rhodes asid, but added that it "is a com- plex question" and that he was concerned for the "academic free- dom" of not only Green, but of Dunn and other chemistry faculty members who advised Green's "reassignment." Rhodes pointed out that his man- date in asking for the review com- mittee included "three questions- the performance of the teaching abilities shown by Prof. Green," a review "of the actions of the chairman (Dunn)" and a question of "what subsequent actions should be taken.' Meanwhile, Green says he is "trying to get a lawyer." Green stayed away from yesterday's demonstration, he said later, be- cause "I think students should de- cide what they want to do them- selves." Green added "I appreciate any student who supports me. It keeps me from feeling alone in this battle in which the people who are doing this to me have all the power." He re-emphasized strongly his position that there should be no violence, no disruptive action be- cause "the issue speaks for itself." Only the female mosquito bites humans and animals.
