CALL UACY 763-1 107 DEADLINE WEDNESDAY Police, kids clash in peed trap flap (Continued from Page 1) The siga-which violates a local ordinance against private signs pertaining to traffic activities- was confiscated by the police who reportedly w a r n e d Seegel and friends that they would "see har- assment like you've never seen before if you put up another sign. Undeterred, the men of Delta Tau Delta merely replaced the lost sign with another version which they nailed to a tree stump on the fraternity lawn. The cops countered by moving their radar equipment to the other ATWENT1OII side of the road. Under the direction of Seegel, the dauntless fratmnen drossed Ged- des to join them. The bizarre feud continued ii cat-and-mouse style as the deter- mined traffic cops once again pulled up .takes and moved once more. Back across the road trooped the Delta Tau Delta crowd, sign in hand. Check! By the end of the day it was a clear stalemate, with the men of Delta Tau Delta refusing to budge an inch. Ringleader Seegel said he just doesn't buy the argument he and his friends ai'e disrupting the ad- ministration of the city's traffic lawes. \\e're stopping the speeders,' lie contended. Grumpy police officers on the scene refused to comment. But Seegel and Co. have vowed to continue their fight against the radar speed trap on their block, ,Jim Nissley, one of Seegel's co- horts said, "We're not going to stop until they do." DAILY~OFF'CIAL BULLETIN Nixon to cooperate with Watergate trial (Continued from Page 1) Democratic National Chairman Robert S. Strauss said he wouldn't deny a report that President Nix- on's re-election committee had of- fered $525,000 to settle the case. The Democratic national chair- man told a reporter that "there has been some serious discussion for many months" between law- yers for the DNC and Nixon's re- election committee and that "it has become intense in the past several weeks. "We won't settle it until we see what goes on in the public inquiry and are sure that our settlement does not diminish the scope of that inquiry," Strauss added. Strauss has said that the Demo- crats, still $3.5 million ,in debt from the 1968 campaign, are vir- tually without funds to do the nec- essary legal work in the civil law- suits. They have had two lawyers working- on the case. Some party leaders feel that two dozen could be usefully employed on it Strauss said he has discussed the possibil- ity of a settlement with many top party leaders, including governors, senators, and congressmen.
