"We work our way through all the Supreme Court justices, said Antoine. "We're delighted to have any member of the Supreme Court." Antoine claims part of the rea- son Rehnquist probably accepted the invitation was that he is a new justice. "He hasn't tired yet of playing this role. He's a good lawyer - an extremely good lawyer. I'mI looking forward to this," said An- toine. Although the mock court is open to the public, Meredith says at- tendance in the past has been small. The students participating in the competition are generally hoping Rehnquist is given a quiet recep- tion. 'I hope he is given the same welcome and same courtesy Doug- las was,#' said Forrest Hainline. "I think nany people who dis- agree with Justice Rehnquist have not read his opinions. It would be wise of them to read his opin- ions first." James Maiwurm said; "I have my own differences with some ofa his stands, but I have a great re-l spect for his legal mind. "I don't look at it as a con- frontation," Maiwurm added. l Two groups who disapprove of Rehnquist's recent judicial opin- ions are the Women'stLaw Stu- 'dent Association and the Boycott1 Lettuce Group. Rehnquist was one of the twoT judges to oppose the Supreme, Court's recent stand on abortion and also one of five justices to defend a shopping center's claim't as private rather than public pro-' perty. The decision forces picket lines to move off the property 100 yards. David Martinez, head of the Boycott Lettuce group, was un- sure at this point whether any protests would be plannedrby his group. "We'll probably get our flags and pickets out. We're definitely anti-Rehnquist," he said. Helen Forsyth, head of the Wo- men's Law Student Association re- ports protesting will be done on an individual level. She also said that the women "won't engage in anything to dis- rupt the Campbell Competitions. "It's not the students' fault that Rehnquist was invited to speak." She said women will "no doubtr be active in expressing their dis- approval of Rehnquist's judicial stance." "I don't think his reception will be as warm as Do'lglas' was last week," said Forsyth. "He's a Nixon appointee, you can't say anything much worse than that. His positions indicate he's a hard-liner on law and or- der. H doesn't have what I would call a developedysocial con- science,," said Forsyth. She added that most women would generally agree more! with a traditional conservative, who w o u l d back abortion on the grounds that the government shouldsstay out of the individual's life. "But he's the wire-tapping con- servative. That's a different breed of cat." $ 88, Busing foe McCabe debates with students The ultimate in fine cameras Nikkormat FTn with FI.4 lens - $269.00 (Continued from Page 1) dent. "There must be a reason. Isn't there a contradiction there?" McCabe replied that she was "still in the kitchen" and "still learning how dirty politics are." She said the Wallace' victories in the last election were proof of the unpopularity of busing. "Nobody knew what his stands were outside of busing. I didn't, know what his stands were outside' of busing." McCabe could not offer a solu- tion to the segregation problem, WHY. The law student commented that present policies are turning the country "into a minute South Af- rica." "It isn't apartheid-yet. But one does get this flavor - one might call it an odor. No one likes quo- tas,, but the country is so very, very racist that you've gotta have numbers." Reactions to McCabe after her appearance were as polarized as the audience itself. One student claims it was "the first time I heard an alternative viewpoint on campus - publicly, that is. There was a lot of truth in it." Another student, representing the opposite extreme said, "I think she represents a disgusting aspect of society. Even though I cannot personally hate her, I hate the thing she represents - and that's racism, covert as it may be. ["She doesn't want to get in- volved in the societal problems she helped to create. This is Tot the day for that." E. Quad hit by fire A small fire causing minor dam- age was easily contained last night at East Quad. The fire, of unkown origin, was originally thought to be a smoke bomb by students. The city fire department re- sponded to the call within minutes after the alarm cleared the build- ing. No one was reported injured.
