League Room D & E, 8:00 p.m. cFtc The Hell with By STEPHEN HERSH In a move to gain the support of the AFL-CIO, United Farmwork- ers (UFW) have dropped their sec- ondary boycott which called. for consumers not to shop at stores which stock Teamster grapes and lettuce. They will continue to picket stores to urge customers to sup- port the primary boycott by not buying Teamster products. In a bargaining session last Be careful with fire: There are babes in the woods. week, UFW leader Cesar Chavez agreed to discontinue his union's secondary boycott in return for AFL - CIO President George Meany's assurance that' his union would support the UFW in its fight against the teamsters.k THE ALLIANCE may prove use- ful to the UFW, because the AFL- CIO could provide the union with vital nationwide picket line and financial support. "Technically," said Beth Brun- ton, coordinator of the city's UFW group, "we're not carrying on the secondary boycott any more. But, we're still not ourselves shopping at the stores that stock Teamster products." Because primary boycott picket- ing will require only a few demon- strators at each of the Wrigley Supermarkets that are boycotted weekly by the Michigan UFW, state union officials will not have to decide whether to defy a re- cent Oakland County Circuit Court ruling that permits only eight Pic- keters at a time on the store grounds. The ruling permits an un- limited number of demonstrators on public sidewalks adjacent to the stores. Studying! And the worst part was that she really wanted to earn a college degree and she knew that she was capable. Thomas More College gave Joan a Second Chance. We have a special summer program designed just for students like Joan ... underachieving students who have experienced serious academic difficulty or even failure. It's an intense program of study, test- ing, and counseling conducted by a specially-trained staff. And the goal of the program is the student's re- moval from probation or his or her readmission to college. Joan is a product of Operation Second Chance. She came through with fly- ing colors and will graduate on sched- ule. No wonder she's smiling.
