RSiPS FOR JUDAIC Colburn changes stance

Incumbent City Council candi-
date William Colburn last night
appeared to change his position on
the role of the council vis-a-vis
the rights of property owners in
the city.
At a Third Ward "candidates'
night" gathering in Burns Park
elementary school, Colburn told
some 24 listeners, "I feel individ-
ual rights should be protected."
The statement came in response
to - a question about the council-
man's stance on the ballot rent
control proposal.

The answer appeared to contra-
dict Colburn's remarks last Friday,
when he told a similar gathering:
"Council must control individual
property owners' rights."
THE FRIDAY night comment
was made while discussing the
city's role in pushing for construc-
tion of the hotly-opposed Packard-
Platt shopping plaza.
Colburn has also publicly stated
that he considers it a "problem"
that local laws tend to favor prop-
erty owners.
