I HE MICHIGAN DAILY rage i nree Rumors of Hearst swap deal refuted , I Vesco threatened to tell of scandal, witness says OAKLAND, (A) - Attorneys for two imprisoned Symbionese L i b e r a tio n Army (SLA) "soldiers" said yesterday their clients do not seek any deal trading their, release for that of kidnaped Patricia Hearst. James Jenner, representing Russell Little, told Judge Staf- ford Buckley of Municipal Court that Little and Joseph Remiro want the state's case against them for the Nov. 6 assassination of Oakland School Supt. Marcus Foster to be tried solely on its merits, "I WISH to dispel reports in the press that these two men wish to be released in exchange for the release of Patricia Hearst. It is pure nonsense," Jenner said. Asked by a newsman whether his clients would refuse a trade if the SLA proposed it, Jenner said he could not comment on that possibility. "I haven't put it to them what they would do in that case," he said. Officials and the Hearst fami- ly have speculated the terrorist group might demand her release. ON WEDNESDAY, Superior Court Judge Sam Hall of Contra Costa County took under sub- mission a request by attorneys for Little, 24, and Remiro, 27, that they be allowed a televised statement of five to 10 minutes. NEW YORK (4') - At the height of a cover-up of Robert Vesco's secret $200,000 contribu- tion to President Nixon's 1972 campaign, the financier himself threatened "to blow the lid off the whole thing," a government witness testified yesterday. This testimony came from Laurence Richardson at the criminal conspiracy trial of for- mer Atty. Gen. John -Mitchell and onetime Commerce Secre- tary Maurice Stans. VESCO HAD JUST been sub- poenaed by °Securities and Ex- change Commission fraud inves- tigators and Richardson, his as- sociate at the time, testified: "Vesco said that was outrag- eous and complained that they were trying to set him up for perjury, they were trying to ex- tend the investigation into areas where they hadnt been before, they were trying to trace down the contribution, he wanted it quashed. "Mr. Vesco said to Harry Sears, 'Get hold of Mitchell and those guys and tell them to have that subpoena quashed, or I'll blow the lid off the whole thing." HE WAS extremely agitated and emotional. I've never seen him so mad. Sears said, all right, he'd see what he could do. Then he walked out. He was angry too.:' and Mitchell, whom he had known as a result of his own ac- tivities in his home state. MITCHELL AND STANS are accused of trying to derail the SEC investigation in return for the six-figure Vesco campaign contribution. The money chang- ed hands secretly three days aft- er the effectiveness of a new law requiring that such contributions be made public.
