THE MICHIGAN DAILY rage Three is accuse Brussels governmentIIFNIYI 210S. FIFTH AVE., ANN ARBOR Syrians of TEL AVIV (Reuter) - Israeli military sources yesterday ac- cused Syria of opening up artil- lery fire on the northern front for the fourth day running. The report came as official confirmation was awaited that the second stage of the Israel- Egyptian disengagement had swung into its second stage as planned, with the beginning of Egyptian forces thinning out on the Suez front. THE SOURCES said that the Syrians had opened fire twice yesterday, east of the sensitive Mazrat Beit Jan area on the northern sector of the bleak Go- lan Heights. They denied a Damascus re- port that the Israeli occupants of an armored troop carrier had been hit. The sources said there had been no Israeli casualties. Israel reiterated lastaSunday that it would discuss a disen- gagement with Syria only when Damascus had provided a list of names of the prisoners of war it was holding and allowed Red Cross visits. BUT FOR a week after the signing of the disengagement with Egypt on Jan. 18, the nor- thern front was quiet. Observers also noted that in the period between the ceasefire and the Israel - Egypt disengagement agreement, there were daily ex- changes of fire on the Suez front. Israeli military correspondents reported signs yesterday that the Egyptian Second Army was be- aggression ginning to thin out its forces at the northern end of the east bank of the Suez Canal as the disengagement swung into its second stage. But there was no official con- firmation of this, or that the Third Army in the south, cut off since the October war until Is- rael's evacuation of part of the west bank Monday, had begun its movement back. MILITARY SOURCES here said there was evidence of a large amount of civilian traffic on the Cairo - Suez road, vacated by the Israelis yesterday. But by late last night there was no confirmation that the Egyptians were using the road to pull back forces from the east bank as agreed under the plan. The United Nations confirmed that a search for Israeli bodies behind Egyptian lines had been postponed from yesterday until today. Both sides had agreed to joint 'patrols, accompanied by U. N. officers, to search for some 300 Israeli bodies. This actually started last week but stopped on Friday. At a meeting on Sun- day it was agreed they should start again yesterday but be- cause of "a technical hitch" this was put off. EGYPTIAN Third Army com- mander Maj. Gen. Ahmed Bada- wi said yesterday the redeploy- ment of Egyptian forces in Sinai will start in mid-February when units of the Third Army will be moved to the west bank of the Suez Canal. undergoes collapse BRUSSELS (Reuter) - King put down when the French-spe Baudouin yesterday dissolved the ing wing of his own party I Belgian Parliament - paving wise insisted on a poll. the way for fresh elections - aft- The government crisis eruI er Premier - designate Leo Tin- when the cabinet split follo demans failed to form a govern- the withdrawal of Iran fron ment, the Royal Palace announc- $200 million refinery project ed. be built in the depressed eas No official date was given for region of Belgium. general elections but political sources said they would probably Iran canceled the deal a take place on March 17.
