Miami, in its position as MAC champ has a definite invitation to the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando. However, the Redskins feel that if they beat Cincinnati this Saturday they may be invited to either the Sun or Peach bowls-whichi they would prefer. In that case, Kent State would visit the Tangerine Bowl. The MAC representative's opponent in Orlando most likely will be Memphis State or Tampa, although wishful thinking Bowl of- ficials have sent feelers to Tulane and Miami (Fla.). THE REDSKINS, alI w a y s a strong tean under Mallory and four straight 7-3 seasons (not a single losing season since 1942), have rarely been able to put it to- gether as well as they have this year. Already some Mid-America on-lookers are comparing this team to the Toledo powerhouses of 1969- 71 that won 35 straight games. The caliber of Mid-America Con- ference play has improved greatly over the past few seasons. The MAC may now have raised itself to a par with the "Little Eight" (the Big Tenminus two). The league's non-conference record to date is 19-5, including wins over Purdue, South Carolina and Northwestern. THREE MAC teams have been rated in the top twenty at one point in the season, the Redskins, Kent State, and Bowling Green. This represents an unprecedented suc- cess for the relatively small con- ference.
