Page Eight THE MICHIGAN DAILY Wednesday, October 31, i 3 Hoosier's Lee Corso a z showman of Big Ten .. By JOHN KAHLER All Big Ten coaches are me- chanical perfectionists who follow the book as Woody Hayes wrote it,! right? Wrong. There is at least one in- dividualist left in the Big Ten. His name is Lee Corso and he coaches' the Indiana Hoosiers, who happen to be Michigan's opponents thisf week. Coach Corso took over the job at Indiana after Johnny Pont fled to Northwestern. At Louis- ville, where he coached before taking therHoosier job, he com- piled a 28-11-3 win-loss record. In his last 28 games at that school he won 24 games. Louis- ville was ranked as high as fif- teenth in the nation during his stay there, quite an accomplish- ment at a school that historically had been more noted for its bas- ketball. While at Louisville Corso also became known for his unusual tac- tics. Moving up to the Big Ten has not changed that aspect of his 0 w FFERS GOOD THROUGH ED., NOV. 7th pAJ10 coaching. So far in his first season at Indiana Corso has: proposed the hiring of a woman assistant football coach; dressed his team at the hotel on the day of a game and transported them onto the field in a double decker bus; allowed newsmen into the locker room at halftime of home games; upset Kentucky and West Virgin- ia. Indiana is winless in the Big Ten, but nobody has noticed over the show. "That's been our problem this season, lackofndepth," he said.We just don't have enough quality play- ers." "We're just going to have to have time, patience, and love. You can't have one without the other. Time, because it's going to take a while to get good players here; patience, because not all the people we get here are going to make it; and love speaks for itself." "I've been very impressed by the Big Ten as I've seen it so far. This conference has excellent quality coaching and a lot of good athletes. Michigan, in particular, has a tremendous team with a fine coaching staff.'' Everybody who ever has been bored at a Big Ten football game wishes Lee Corso well in his task. Til then, there is this Saturday's game, where it will be seen whe- ther time, patience, and love can beat power, talent, and experience. 1 The Academy Award Winner You MUST See Again 4 4 yl~ Doily Photo by JOHN UPTON F...F...F...F ranklin Tender words escape from beloved Bo's mouth as prized QB Denny Franklin takes a miscue.
