IGRADUATE ASSIS
G.A. ~s
By MIKE LISULL
It's a cold bulstery autumn aft-
ernoon. Out on the football prac-
tice field six men remain after var-
sity practice silently moving up
and down the deserted tartan turf,
playing their own game of three
on three..
To these men football is morel
than just a game, rather it's aI
way of life. Two of the six are
coaches the other four are per-
haps the most underpaid people
connected with Michigan football.
These four men are the graduate

TANTS:
aid ga4
assistants, and their pay comes
out to a few pennies an hoir.
For this me,1ger sum of mon-
ey these men do everything that
is expected of a coach and some-
times more. This year Michigan
has four graduate assistants:
Bob Sutton from Eastern Michi-
gan who is the only returner
from last year; Dana Coin, a
name familiar to all Wolverine
fans is in his first year as assist-
ant to his former coach; Al Ma-
gis, who played for Bo at Miami
of Ohio is also in his first year.

hpr?; and Jed H-ighes, who
pl yed -t Gettysburg and has
worked at Stanford as a G. A.
1-st year.
These fo"r men recruit, coach,
so1t, cut films, attend meetings
and generally, as Magis described
it, "We do all the dirty work."
However their basic job is to pre-
pare the "scouting team" that
works against the varsity all week.
This scouting team is comprised
of the varsity, reserve team run-
ning on offense and a defense that
the varsity will probably see in the
game on Saturday. In addition to
this, they also try to prepare the
varsity-reserve for their three
games a year.
Working with the V-R is where
they get the most satisfaction, as
Hughes remarked, "Working with
players is what coaching is all
about, unfortunately we don't al-
ways get to work one on one
with the players".
Another disappointment voiced
'by the G.A.'s were game days. "A
lot of the game is preparation and
with all the running around we
have to do on Saturday mornings
we usually don't get to the stadium
until right before kick-off," Coin
related.
But despite the seemingly end-
less. hassles, these men really
enjoy what they're doing. They
all agreed on the fact that the
coaches are really great.
Coaching is a goal shared by all
of the G.A.'s. Hughes and Sutton
have coached for high schools,
Sutton doing duty at Ann Arbor
St. Thomas, but to them college
is the place to be, as all 'voiced
their desire for a head college job,
ultimately in the Big Ten.

Like a finely tuned sports car, this component system
from Tech Hifi is powerful enough to handle any
situation, compact enough to maketit easy to park,
and flashy enough to attract envious glances. The
Harman Kardon 330a am/fm stereo receiver (selling
for the fair trade price of $239.95) delivers a full
45rms watts to drive the EPl 100 loudspeakers to
impressive volumes. The linear sounds of EPI 100s
make all sorts of music sound more realistic. The same
sort of precision engineering that goes into a fine
sports car is evident in the Miracord 620u automatic
turntable. An ADC 90Q cartridge, base and dustcover
are included. Fuel injection is optional.

At Tech Hifi, we take pride in offering the best components
available in the price range that you're looking for, be-it from.
two hundred dollars to two thousand dollars.
But still there is more.
All-of the components that are on display have been consumer
evaluated. You won't find any cheap fly-by-night brands as we
only sell what we can stand behind 100%. And at their list price
they represent the best value for the dollar.
But still there is more.
When you buy a complete stereo system from us, consisting of
a receiver, or tuner and amp, a turntable, and a pair of speakers,
we are able to discount the price and give you an even better
value for your money.
But still there is more.
On top of our competitive low prices, we have complete repair
facilities, so that if anything should go wrong we'll help you
out. Our warrantees (which are fully detailed to you before
you buy) are designed to give you complete satisfaction with
your system and peace of mind with your choice.
But still there is more.
At Tech, our young, friendly and knowledgeable sales staff knov
that our customers are our best advertisement. Year after year,
our customers come back for more.
And they bring their friends with them.

More powerful than a full blown hemi, larger than a
Coupe de Ville and with better tone than a Maserati,
this super system is a strong contender for the best
recommended system that Tech Hifehas ever put
together. Ohm F loudspeakers require a lot of space
and substantial power, but they are the most
accurate reproducers of music ever developed. The
Pioneer SA9100 amplifier (120rms watts) and Pioneer
TX9100 tuner (1.5uV fm sensitivity) are "state of the
art" components and their appearance reflects it.
The Dual 1229 is the finest automatic turntable that
