The harriers: have an opportunity today to im- prove their reputation and times by; contending with undoubtedly the finest teams in the Midwest at the Notre Dame Invitational. The Michigan harriers appear- ed Big Ten title bound in Sep- tember. Farmer used nothing but superlatives to describe his young runners then but now he's dissatisfied with their progress. No single harrier has run con- sistently in the four previous meets. Jon Cross has been unable COMPETE AT NOTR E DAME to put together two good meets in a row. His teammate, Greg Meyer, took over the races in which Cross tagged. Bill Bolster is far from reaching his potential so far this season. He does not appear particularly con- cerned with his digression because the championships won't come up for three to four weeks. Farmer feels differently. The, meet today is a preview of the Big Ten Championship on November 3. Indiana, defending cross-country champion, and Wis- consin are on hand to challenge the Michigan squad. Last season, Michigan placed second to Indi- ana in the Big Ten From the thirty-odd teams that Notre Dame is hosting, Eastern, Bowling Green, and Southern Illi- nois standout as top contenders. Bowling Green and Easern finished 1-2 at the '72 Notre Dame Invita- tional. Since there were over 300 competitors last year, the meet is divided into two flights.
