F A WELCOMES RETURNING U of M STUDENTS with a SPECIAL SKI SALE WORK/STUDY/i 603 E. Madison RAVEL ABROAD * 764-9310 Iowa By JEFF CHOWN "I think this is a bunch of BS about Bo Schembechler passing this year. Knowing Bo as well as we do I just can't believe that. He has a great philosophy at Michigan and it has worked over the years for him. He never gets his defense in trouble by using plays that have high percentage of turnovers P and I don't think he'll change now." So spoke Iowa defensive coach Don Lewis when asked what type of game he expected from the Wolverines when they invade Iowa City for the Big Ten opener this Saturday. Lewis elaborated that he didn't expect Michigan to pass because it was a conference game. He felt if Michigan would indeed work on a passing game this year they would wait for the three non-conference games af- terwards. Nevertheless, the for- mer Toledo defensive coach ad- mitted: "They hurt us with the passing game last year." It must be remembered that wasn't the season opener. Should Schembechler surprise Lewis with something other than the traditional "four-yards and a cloud of dust," Iowa still should be ready with a backfield with impressive credentials. Three of the four backs who were sixth in the nation against the pass are returning this year. Earl Douthitt and Rich Penney, both juniors and both second team All-Big Ten last year will be playing left corner and free safety. Senior letterman - Rick Brooks and sophomore Bob Sal- ter should hold down the other two spots in the backfield. The rest of Iowa's defense isn't going to roll over for the "Big Blue Machine" e i t h e r. Head coach Frank Lauterbur made these comments in a pre-season' statement: "I feel we've got one of the top linebackers around in Andre Jackson. He led the Big Ten in tackles last season as a fresh- man walk-on and should be bet- ter this year. Dan La Fleur will man the other spot. La Fleur, like Jackson, has great ability to find the ball." "We lack depth in the defen- sive line, but I think we've got a solid number one unit. Our ends, Dan Dickel and Lynn Heil are S pell it otstandiig players: Dickel is the only senior on our number one defe~nsive line. Our tackles and middle guards have good range and q'iickness. Oir overall speed here is excellent." Jackson was quite a story last year as he was the Big Ten's leading tackler as a freshman walk-on. He' was also named to the Football flews All-American Rookie team and second team All-Big Ten. Dickel led the Big Ten in tackles for a loss. Michigan put 31 points on the board last year enroute to a shutout versus the Hawkeyes. With many returning veterans in the Iowa d e fe n se, Michigan should be hard pressed to equal that total. It could be a low scor- ing game this Saturday. 1. °r - L__RC H HEADS 50% (NW SSL OFF )SSIGNOL 2455 S. Beeley Street Prophets at DAILY LIBELS the freshman system $199 This $200 component system should solve the biggest problem that a freshman encounters: making friends. New friends will mob your room to listen to the clarity of the TDCla loudspeakers driven by the Rotel RX-150, and you can take a break to talk to them without constantly changing records. The BSR 310X stacks up to six records and changes them automatically. Moreover, the tubular tonearm on the BSR 31 OX turntable tracks the magnetic cartridge so lightly on the records that your new friends can bring their own records without fear of damage or wear. The Rotel RX-150 AM/FM stereo receiver will pull in all those live broadcasts from the local Blues & Jazzclubs as well as the live Boston Symphyony and Pops con- certs. Its tuner has a 60 dB signal to noise ratio (that's excellent) and an IF rejection of 70 dB for transparent quiet reception in difficult reception areas (the Boston area is noted for this). The Model RX-1 0 comes housed in wooden cabinet and includes functions for two speaker systems, illuminated dial pointer, separate bass and treble controls, front panel headphone jack, and 15 rms watts of continuous power (less than 0.5% THD). The list price of this BSR / Rotel / TDC system is $275, but all Tech Hifi stores will have this syster} displayed for $199 - that's a discount of 27%. Y F ;ull I O 0 0 11 - d I SGT. 1028 E. King's appearance in the much heralded match was thought to be in some doubt because tests earlier this week revealed she had hypoglycemia, a blood dis- order. But she apparently will be able to meet Riggs in the match. Riggs has branded talk of King's health problems as at- tempts to psych him out. Marroy. The ancients believed that all ed- ucators should have an understanding of music, in all its many forms. What better way to study this concept than through a stereo system from Tech Hifi. "The Educator's Choice" system includes a Harman-Kardon 330a AM/FM receiver, two EPI 100 loud- speakers and the Miracord 620U turntable; it sells for $449. The Harman-Kardon 330a will receive with "first row" clarity all the FM stations in the area. Its continuous rms power is 45 watts, entirely enough to drive the EPI 100 two-way loudspeakers. (The EPI 100 is EPI's first and most popular speaker). The EPI 100's are noted for extreme linearity in response and natural high frequency tones. TechHifi has chosen the Benja- min Miracord 620U turntable for use in this system because of its freedom from turn- table rumble and inner groove distortion. The ADC 900 induced magnetic cartridge compliments the superior tracking abiltiy of the Miracord 620U and will be installed and adjusted at TechHifi by your salesman.
