A public hearing on transportation - the final in a series of eight throughout Southeast Michigan - will take place tonight in Washtenaw County. It will be an opportunity for citizens and elected officials to see, hear and inquire about a proposed plan for the development of our region's highway network and public transportation network. It is the product of several years of thorough study and analysis by SEMCOG staff, local elected officials who represent their communities ins SEMCOG, and county and local planners who work with SEMCOG. At the hearing, SEMCOG officials will present the highway-transit plan with visuals, maps and related materials. After you have seen the plan, you will have an opportunity to ask questions about it. You will be able to find out what benefits are in itnfor you and your community as well as all of Washtenaw County. Also on hand at the hearing will be officials of the Southeastern Michigan Transportation Authority (SEMTA), the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti Urban Area Transportation Study (UATS), Barton and Aschman Planning Consultants, and ,.", ;. the Michigan Department of State Highways and Transportation. They will4 answer specific questions about public transportation and state highwayk development in SEMCOG's recommended plan. A Chance to Influencea4 The hearing will give citizens a chance to influence the plan. Hearing transcripts will go back to SEMCOG and their contents will be considered for possible modifications of the plan. Importance of Hearing The hearing is important because government agencies such as the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Michigan Department of State Highways and Transportation want to know what you think about the plan. Equally important, the hearing is needed because it will explore a highway and public transportation system that could have long-range meaning to all of Southeast Michigan's 4.8 million people.
