Ford requests deficit

Ford also announced proposed

cuts of $17 billion in parts of the
budget which have so far been
regarded here as "uncontroll-
able" - long-term legislative

uncomfortable as possible and
to allow into the 64-room build-
ing only the minimal amount of

Area whites, meanwhile, still#
demanded forcible eviction of
the Indians.
"WE ASKED Simonson what
he plans to do. His reply was
to bring in 350 more troops to
contain the white citizens," one
demonstrator at the Gresham
rally said. The rally, sponsored
by a local Concerned Citizens
Committee, broke up after an
hour.
The guardsmen replaced local
authorities on the seventh day
of the takeover. Simonson had
said 25 to 30 Indians remained at
the estate after 28 women and
children left two weeks ago. #

However, he said that number
probably swelled to more than
40 as supporters bearing food
and weapons snuck this week-
end through the National Guard
lines.

Otis Redding died in a plane
crash, this city dedicated to his
memory a $1-million bridge
across the Ocmulgee River.

Talmadge and Sam Nunn and
Congressman W. S. Stuckey
and Andrew Young.
The respected rhythm 'n'
blue singer was 26 when he
