DROUGHT TAKES TOLL H awkey By MARCIA MERKER , Defenses all across the coun-' try can't wait to get their hands on Iowa this fall. The Hawkeye offense, though it returns nine starters, is not all that dazzling. THE HAWKEYES' new coach, Bob Commings, pointed out a number of weaknesses on the offensive line. His primary con- cern is the Hawkeyes' ability to weather, the first four contests against UCLA, Southern Cal, Peni State and Michigan with- out receiving too many ,crip- pling injuries. As the Hawk mentor com- mented, "The fact that our line- up is set points out the squad's number one weakness: lack of depth. We've got some good first-line players but our lack of depth is startling at almost all positions." Another problem for the team has been finding a decent quar- terback. There were nine can- didates at the beginning of the fall practice. CampS gift By The Associated Press LANSING - Campy Russell will give the University of Michigan a sum of money from the contract he signed when he turned professional, according to John Orr, Michigan basket- ball coach. Orr said the gift was the first of its kind from a Michigan athlete. Orr didn't specify the sum, but a source close to the school said it would be between $25,000 and $50,000.
