MADISON - John Brocking-
ton's three touchdowns paced the
third-ranked Ohio State to a 24-7
Big Ten conference football vic-
tory over an outmanned but de-
termined Wisconsin team yester-
day afternoon.
Brockington bulled his way 11
yards in the opening moments of
the second period for his initial
score. He later added touchdown
runs of four and one yards as the
Buckeyes broke away from a slim
10-7 halftime lead.
The battling Wisconsin Badgers
intercepted five OSU passes to
stay within striking range through
most of the game. However, the
home team, playing before a rec-
ord crowd of 72,758, failed to sus-
tain any long drives.
With Brockington leading the
way, Ohio State outgained the
Badgers on the ground 141 yards
to 70. In the air, Ohio State led
158 to 121.

Gophers gored
EVANSTON - Big Ten rushing
leader Mike Adamle staged a
dazzling one-man show scoring
four touchdowns to rally North-
western from a 14-0 deficit to a
28-14 conference football victory
over rugged Minnesota yesterday.

Adamle shattered a Big Ten
ball-carrying record with 48 hauls
good for 192 yards and finally put
Northwesern ahead 21-14 with
6:03 left with his third one-yard
scoring dive.
Adamle scored Northwestern's
fourth touchdown on a five-yard
smash with 65 seconds left.
The victory kept Northwestern's
slim league title hopes alive with
a 4-1 record and left Minnesota
with a 1-3-1 record.

EAST LANSING - Michigan
State, stung early by a 93-yard
touchdown on the opening kickoff
by Stan Brown of Prudue, didn't
recover until the third quarter
when two TD's by Eric "The Flea"
Allen put the football game away,
the Spartans winning their third
in a row yesterday by a 24 to 14
score.
MSU could only manage a field
goal in the first quarter but added
a score in the second, on a 15-
yard run by flanker Randy Davis.

Hawks prey
IOWA CITY - The sun came
out for Iowa yesterday as the
rushing of Levi Mitchell and a
strong defense gave the Hawkeyes
their second Big Ten Conference
victory of the season 42-13 over
Indiana.
The Hawkeyes dominated the
game as quarterback Roy Bash
exhibited for a Dad's Day crowd
the improved passing coach Ray
Nagel has been praying for all
season.
Bash's 36-yard second quarter
pass to Dennis Green gave Iowa
its first touchdown via the air
since the Arizona game and its
first in conference play this sea-
son.
The Hawkeyes added two more
TDs before halftime on Mitchell's
runs of one and 20 yards.

The Longhorns held a 21-7 half
time lead on Steve Worster's two
touchdowns of one yard each and
a five-yard dash by quarterback

The Bears bottled up the Texas
offense in the second half and
the deepest penetrations the Long-
horns could make was to the Bay-
lor 37-yard line.

Joe Theismann directed second-
ranked Notre Dame to a 46-14
victory over determined Pittsburgh
here yesterday.

day with 381 yards in total 'of-
fense to become Notre Dame's all
time total offense leader.

Cadets fizzle
EUGENE -Sophomore quarter-
back Dan Fouts dazzled ninth-
ranked Air Force with four touch-
down passes yesterday as under-
dog Oregon stunned the Falcons,
46-35..
It was the first loss in nine
games for Air Force. Oregon,
playing without star tailback
Bobby Moore, improved its record
to 6-3.
The two teams traded touch-
downs all afternoon before Oregon
finally went ahead in the fourth
quarter on a clutch Fouts-Bob

Newland toss which clinched the
victory.
Indians squeak by
PALO ALTO-Stanford claimed
the Pacific-8 football title and a
Rose Bowl berth yesterday as Jim
Plunkett's fourth touchdown pass
of the game brought the Indians
from behind for a 29-22 victory
over Washington.
The Stanford offense slumber-
ed for more than two periods, and
Washington, behind sophomore
quarterback Sonny Sixkiller, took
a 22-21 lead into the final period.
Plunkett passed 15 yards to Randy
Vataha for the winning touch-
down, ending a 67-yard Stanford
drive with 7:32 to play.
Manning smashed
OXFORD - Archie Manning,
Mississippi's brilliant quarterback,
was knocked out of action for the
remainder of the college football
season with a broken left arm yes-
terday as the Rebels outscored
Houston 24-13.
Manning hit fullback Randy
Reed and tailback Bob Knight
with first-quarter scoring passes
and kept the Rebel offense mov-
ing until he was racked up. After
the injury, he had to be helped
off the field.
Sooners stomp
NORMAN - Oklahoma, sparked
by sophomore Greg Pruitt's three
touchdowns, made the big plays
yesterday and took advantage of
early Missouri mistakes for a 28-
13 Big Eight Conference football
victory.
Oklahoma recovered three Mis-
souri fumbles in the first half
and led 21-0 at intermission. The
Tigers rolled up impressive yard-
age in the second half, mainly on
quarterback Chuck Roper's pass-
ing, but Oklahoma's defense never
let the loses move back into ser-
ious contention.
