If' he does not achieve his goal of winning, it will not be for lack of effort. "Last summer I worked a lot on my throwing," he said. "I got my arm stronger. T h is fall I'm working on ball hand- ling.techniques in backfield play.," Despite his standout season last year, Moorhead feels he is still improving. "As last year went on I got better, but I still have to improve. If you don't go out to practice 'to improve, there's no sense in practice." Schembechler also sees some improvement in his quarterback. "He should be even better this year. He's developed a lot more confidence in himself, but that's also something he's always had." A lanky 6-3, 200-pounder from South Haven, Moorhead chose Michigan over Michigan State, Purdue, Stanford and Colorado among others. He intended to go into en- gineering, "but once I got into football, I didn't have time for it. There's no way you can do both." He has since switched to education. Mention the possibility of his becoming a quarterback for the Baltimore Colts and Moor- head's -eyes brighten like a little boy's on Christmas morning. Still, he is aware of the dif- ficulty of making it with a pro team. Former teammate Cecil Pryor, for example, was cut by both the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles. "You know what a good ball- player he is, and, cripes, if he can't make it, you know how tough it must be. "If the pro things flop; I'd like to coach football in high school or college, or even coach basketball." But the immediate problem is the coming season. It's no long- er news to hear someone give a glowing appraisal of the Wol- verines chances thisbyear. "I think we can be better than last year. The lack of a Rose Bowl incentive won't hurt. "The main objective is t h e conference championship." Records set one year ao (Continued from Page 18) first downs rushing with 29 and total rushing plays with 77. Other school records which fell during the season were most first downs, 222, first d o w n rushing, 142, rushes, 615, rush- ing yardage, 2754, total plays 828, total offense 4203 and points in the regular season, 349. Including his Rose Bowl per- formance Moorhead broke Brown's total offense record with 1886 yards. This record only lasted a yea'r, ,and even though he won't spend Christ- mas in Pasadena, Moorhead may break it again.
