"As a tactic;" history Prof. Thomas Tentler states, "the fast won't be the determining factor in ending war research. However, other tactics seem to be counter- productive." Tentler says there is also a feel- ing of guilt among those who haven't joined the fast. However, he says there is usually a good medical reason why those people can't fast. Having limited themselves to fruit juices for six days, the facul- ty members say the worst part of fasting is over. Most report that although they experienced severe* hunger pangs the first day and headaches the second, such symp- toms are no longer very noticeable. More than 100 students and facul- tnembers have now joined the fast, which is scheduled to end tonight. Galler contends that "repeatedI convictions of rules serious enough to include the sanction of suspen- sion and that any conviction of a felony in a civil court "which is in violation of a University Council rule" shall be grounds for expul- sion of the defendant. while Galler and other faculty members will press for stricter penalties, students have attacked the UC rules as too harsh. Jerry DeGrieck, SGC executive, vice-president, has said he will urge that SGC reject the proposal because the rules include suspen- sion as a maximum penalty for a person convicted of disruption for the second time. DeGrieck has said that suspen- sion should not be a penalty in any case, as .students are guaranteed the right not to be suspended un- der SGC's constitution. The consti- tution has been approved by the student body but not the Regents. In addition, the question of dou- ble jeopardy is likely to be de- bated at today's meeting. The proposed rules stipulate that a single complainant must prose- cute the defendant in only on~e court, either civil or University. However, if several people file charges against a member of the University community, they are not limited to selecting the same court to file their charges.
