NEEDLESS to point out that
both of the above recipes are for
the woman who is wholly liber-
ated, i.e. free from budget worries.
In the old days the dishes "like
momma used to make" were the
strongest chains that bound fami-
lies together. Generation after
generation of daughters and
daughters-in-law had to learn the
art of preparing family recipes
over long periods of patient years
under the tutelage and super-
vision of the matriarch. These re-
cipes consisted largely of admo-
nitions like "Schutt herein a
handful", "season to taste", and
"knead until it feels right," etc.
Generations of children and
grandchildren time and time

cipes for momma's specialties.
Once one know how to make

In contrast, the emancipated,
liberated woman of today cheer-
fully sends her fledglings out into
the world glad to be rid of them
as well as of the need for mea-
suring, sifting, creaming, chop-
ping, beating, whipping, baking
and washing. And she gladly
passes on her recipes. To wit:

then add to creamed mixture dry

Transfer dough to greased 8 x

late chips on top.
Beat egg whites till stiff, grad-
ually add 1 c. brown sugar. Pour
this over contents of pan and

PILLSBORY, iiten, on main-
taining women as the happy
slaves of men and kitchens may
sing, "Nothin' says lovin' like
somethin' from the oven." The
free woman, however, knows that
lovin' is really that one to one
relationship, that person to person
sensitivity, that give and take,
that accepting of other people as
individuals! But does anyone els-
