Esch (R-Mich), yester- day announced the results of a secret poll conducted of all House Members to determine which foot- ball team should be rated Number One in the country. The results were overwhelmingly in favor of Michigan. Esch claimed that his poll, conducted by secret ballot, emphasizes once and for all who should be rated Number One. It was in direct conflict with weekly UPI and AP polls. "It is obvious in their wisdom that the Repre- sentatives throughout the country have chosen wisely and without re- gard to special interest," said Esch. Esch indicated that Congress- man Edmondson of Oklahoma, Congressman Thone of Nebraska and Congressman Flowers of Ala- bama had raised serious objections to the methods through which the poll was conducted and asked to examine the ballots. Esch denied there was any fraud involved and indicated that his Special Assist- ant, George Stevens, and staff had counted the ballots and they were destroyed upon completion of the counting. Esch indicated that he will for- ward the results to the W h i t e House and encourage the Presi- dent to name Michigan the Num- ber One team in the country, in spite of anticipated loud protesta- tions from Alabama, Oklahoma and Nebraska and the furor rais- ed two years, ago when the Presi- dent named Texas over Penn State. "I personally hope that the President, being such as h a r p analyst of football, will concur with the decision of the House," Esch said. "Besides, there are more electoral votes in Michigan than in Oklahoma, Nebraska or Ala- bama." I SPECIFY PLAQUE A Q OR B Q CAVALIER SALES INC. 308 A.
