Both of these squads are highly respected and will pro- vide stiff competition for the Wolverines especially in front of the rabid Pennsylvania fans. Tonight the grapplers face last year's NCAA Eastern champs, Penn State, holders of a three- year 25 match unbeaten string. Four particularly impressive people highlight the Nittany Li- on lineup. Heading the list is Andy-Mat- ter the defending NCAA cham- pion at 167 pounds. Dave Weber was the national runnerup two years ago at 126 and is back this year after an injury that knock- ed him out last season. Michi- gan's two wrestlers at these weights are Roger Ritzman and Jim Hagan, respectively. Both have been hampered by injuries in practice and will not be in top physical shape for their en- counters. * 8 tract stereo . latest hits " Qriginal artists $3 95 r open If Hagan is unable to wrestle sophomore Bill Davids will move in that spot. The lightest and heaviest classes probably have the best matchups of the evening. At 118 pound Jim Brown will meet Penn State's Tom Teagarden whom he defeated in an open meet in high school. It will be the first college wrestling for both of these freshmen.. Michigan's fine heavyweight Rick Bolhouse perhaps will have a tougher opponent than first expected when he goes up against a big 270-pounder in Ira Lupert. All-American football player Dave Joyner was suppos- sed to be the Penn State heavy- weight, but he will be in Knox-. ville this weekend for the big game with Tennessee. Many insiders feel, however, that he will have a hard time winning his job back from Lu- pert after his Cotton Bowl ap- pearance. Wolverine mentor Rick Bay has deep respect for the Penn State squad. "We will be hard pressed to beat them. They are very strong in the heavier weights, so if we have any hope to win we will have to pick some TV & Stereo Rentals $10.00 per month NO DEPOSIT FREE DELIVERY, PICK UP AND SERVICE CALL: NEJAC TV RENTALS 662-5671 season points in the lower weights. If we wrestle well we can beat them" After the Penn State match the Wolverines travel to Pitts- burgh to take on another of the nation's elites. Bay and the men on the team are anxiously look- ing ahead to this one since the Panthers vanquished them last year in a dispute-filled contest. Unlike Penn State, Pitts- burgh's strength lies in the low- er classes. At 118 another frosh duel will take place. The oppo- sition for Brown this time around will be Jim Bryant, a good wrestler who beat Brown in high school. An identical situation con-. fronts either Hagan or Davids at the 126-pound level, as an NCAA finalist from two years ago Randy Payne makes his comeback against the Wolver - ines. Michigan's Big Ten Champ at 150, Jerry Hubbard, meets ano- ther outstanding grappler Kevin Love in what promises to be an exciting match. The other Michigan men will be facing unpublicized but good wrestlers. Rick Neff at 134, Cap- tain Mark King at 142, Mitch Mendrygal at 158; John Ryan at 177, and Therlon Harris at 190 round out the Michigan line- up. Both meets are expected to draw upwards of 8,000 specta- tors, which could give the home teams a decided advantage. Coach Bay feels that both of the affairs will be tight battles high-. lighted by some great individual efforts.
