Toronto, a member of the On- tario Rugby Union's Senior Di- vision, will be making its first appearance of the spring sea- son. Michigan will be seeking its third straight victory after hav- ing defeated both Notre Dame and Cleveland. The Barbarians of the past have been characterized as a very skillful team, but a little slower than most teams. They are an excellent ball control club, thus often overcoming their lack of speed. Wing forward Ry Smith, who has played in Ire- land, leads the scrum play. The ability of the backs will be the biggest test for Toronto. The addition of New Zealander Nigel Toye at inside center could very well unite the back- field attack. Doug Innes, Toronto's fixture secretary believes that the aut- come of the game will depend on 'how well our forwards can play against Michigan." Michigan, although they have played quite well will be ahuf- fling players between the Blue and the Gold teams. Captain Dick Moon explained, "While we've been playing very well, we're going to juggle around our player combinations to see which players will go to be Big Ten tournament." Moon further elucidated on the criteria for selections. "T h i s season, the lack of hair on the head and abundant quantity of hair on the chest will not deter- mine who will play." Michigan's success to date, ac- cording to Moon, is that "rugby is a game of skill and inspira- tion. So far we've had a large quantity of inspiration, but need to develop the skills a lot more before we can field an excellent team." Jeff Grill and Hank Lukaski will remain in the front row at prop and hooker, but S t e v e Chapman will move from hi- wing forward post to the other prop. Chris Penoyar (not Tcro- yar) will continue at second row while Bob Jagonich moves from prop to the second r'ow. Jagonich's knee had been in question at the beginning of the season, but seems to be coining along well enough to give him a shot in the strenuous second row. Jacque Passino will move out to number eight. Vern Plato will team up at wing forward with Pete Hendrickson, who wzil be making his first' appearpnce on the Blue team this yeari. The backfield will also have two new faces. John Bolke will replace Dave Osborne w h i I e Chuck Holt will take over for the injured Peter Hooper. The rest of the backfield will remain the same. Walt Holloway has been ham- pered by a knee problem that will probably sideline him this week. Hooper turned an ankle last week and has not been able to go at full streng4:h. The rugby club nas gen'rat- ed a lot of participant interest this spring and has a suficient quantity of players to field three teams. To reinforce the enthusitlsm that has overwhelmed the rug- gers, an aware ror the be s t player, called the Jock-of-the- Week, is being presented eaih1 week for each game. The win- ners against Notre Dame were Lukaski for the Blue, and Gary Anderscn for the Gold. Last .eek against Cleveland, the maize and blue colord athlet'c supptrters went to Plato on the Blue, Chuck Drukis on the Gold, and Penoyar on the Maize. Fans art invited to participa-e in the selection of these players at each home game. The rugby club is also invit- ing all fans to, a social gather- ing after the games starting at i:00. Overflowing dumpsters can be found behind nearly every apartment building in the Second Ward on any day of the week. Apartment dwellers need twice-weekly pick-ups at the minimum. Renters have the same right to the clean environment provided to the people living in single-family houses. The city administra- tion is now using renters to subsidize garbage collection for home- owners. Currently these areas are not required to take their gar- bage out to the curb for collection. If each homeowner made this slight effort, money could be found for extra pick-ups. The City Public Works Department must take a serious look at the recycling of newspapers, cans, and bottles. Ecological issues cannot be treated as a passing fad. Experimental programs in selected neighborhoods have already been tried and have prov- en successful. A full recycling program can and must be imple- mented in the near future.
