-- Is God Calling You? -
"There are movements of the soul, deeper than words can describe
and yet more powerful than any reason, which can give a man to know
beyond question or arguing or doubt, that the finger of God is here.
God does inspireamen. Faith is required to accept that reality. Only in
the decision to go .. did I find the joy and interior peace that are marks
of God's true intervention in the soul." He Leadeth Me W. Ciszek SJ.

Happenings

For the week of
March 23 through 30

FRIDAY
March 23
Kings of the Road (Aud A, 7 and
9:15) Wim Wnders' prize-winning "New
Wave" epic about two young men van-
ning across Germany.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
(Nat Sci, 7 and 9:15) Two outlaw bud-
dies, a loveable schemiel (Paul
Ne'wman), the other a pyscho killer
(Robert Redford) romp through what's
left of the Old West, picking up

Katherine Ross along the way.
The King of Hearts (MLB 3, 7 and 9)
An allegory on the insanity of war,
based on the tired old notion that mad-
men are actually more together than
the "normal" world. It tries very hard
to be whimsical and playful, and more
often than not ends up embarrasing in-
stead. Alan Bates runs about
throughout, looking cute and befuddled
amidst all the heavy metaphors.
Horsefeathers (100 Hutchins Hall,
7:30 and 9) One of the Marx Brother'
earliest-and funniest-comedies. This
time around, Groucho is a rather
dubious college professor who's out to
make the school football team, no mat-
ter what. Step aside, Allan Smith!
Dumbo (Old A&D, 7 and 9:05) Walt
Disney defied the laws of areodynamics
by creating Dumbo, a loveable baby
elephant with big floppy ears that help
him fly. Charming as hell.
The Ark-Tracy and Eloise Schwartz
with music from Appalaicha. Also
SAturday.
The Blind Pig-The Jimmy Johnson
Band. Also Saturday.
The Earle-soft vocal jazz by The
Stuart Cunningham Trio. Also Satur-
day.
Mr. Flood's-The Steve Newhouse
Band. Also Saturday.
Second Chance-Heavy metal plun-
der by Mugsy. Also Saturday.
Center Stage-T.K.O., a new band on
the rock scene, with ex-WWWW DJ
Steve Dahl doing a stand-up routine.
Also Saturday.
SATURDAY
March 24
The Last Waltz (Aud A, 7, 9:30 and
12) Martin Scorses' documentary
tribute to the now-defunct group The
Band features Bob Dylan, Van
Morrison, Joni Mitchell and other rock
and roll dignitaries. See Neil Young
high on coke.
Pretty Baby (Nat Sci, 7 and 9&30)
Director Louis Malle recreates the
lush, decadent atmosphere of a turn-of-
the-century New Orleans cathouse
where twelve-year-old Violet (Brooke
Shields) lives with her prostitute
mother. Catch Keith CArradine in his
nerdiest role as Violet's photographer-
lover.
Deliverance (MLB 3, 7 only) A
holiday canoe trip turns into an ordeal
when four men (including Jon Voigh
and Burt Reynolds) find themselves in
Southern Backwoods country, harassed
by unfriendly natives and dangerous
rapids. Based on a novel by James
Dickey, one of America's foremost
poets.
The Godfather, Part II (MLB 3, 9
!

only) Francis Ford Coppola expands on
the history and private lives of the
Corlene family, the dynasty of Sicilian
gangsters featured in his earlier work,
The Godfather. With Robert DeNiro,
Diane Keaton and Al Pacino.
Contempt (RC Auditorium, mid-
night) Jean-Luc Godard directed this
drama about a screenwriter's marital
discord, with Brigitte Bardot (the
original Sex Kitten) and Michel Piccoli.
Blue Collar (MLB 3, 7 and 9:15)
Richard Pryor, Harvey Keitel and
Yaphet Kotto star as three auto
workers who set out to rip off their fat
cat oppressors. Made in Detroit.
Murder By Death (Old A&D, 7 and
9:05) Not so funny send-up of the mur-
der mystery genre, featuring parodies
of fictional sleuths from Charlie Chan
and Hercule Poirot to Nick and Nora
Charles. With Peter Sellers, Alec
Guiness, and Truman Capote, in a
screen performance that sounded the
death-knell of a distinguished literary
career.
SUNDAY
March 25
Goodbye Columbus (Aud A, 7 only) A
rather outdated comedy of manners
based on Philip Roth's novel, featuring
Ali McGraw as a Jewish American
Princess who falls for lowly Richard
Benjamin.
Diary of a Mad Housewife (Aud. A, 9
only) Carrie Snodgrass plays the Mad
Housewife, married to a hyper-
ambitious lawyer and not that happy
with it. A rare example of Hollywood
feminism. Part of Cinema II's Richard
Benjamin Festival (what???).
The Wild One (Old A&D, 7, and 9:05)
A very young Marlon Brando doffed his
ripped undershirt for the role of a
motorcycle hood who raises hell in a
small, unsuspecting town.
Mr. Flood's-the fusion music of the
Prismatic Band.
Second Chance-Free Admission for

aging, but lusty, rodeo star who lusts
after-I mean relives his former glory
through-a young buckaroo (Arthur
Kennedy).
The Red Snowball (Old A&D, 7 only),

directed by Vasili Shushin.

Watermelon Man (Aud. A, 8:30 only
One obnoxious WASP bigot (Godfrey

bizzare premise opens as a vaguel
amusing sitcom, and gradually evolve
into an angry commentary on rac
relations.
Support Your Local Sheriff (Aud. A
10 only) James Garner plays an adven
turer who becomes sheriff in a boo
town. Wry spoof of the Hollywoo
western, directed by Burt Kennedy.
Red Desert (RC Auditorium. 9:1
only) Antonioni creates a strangel,
limp, disoriented woman (Monica Vit
ti), estranged from the modern in
dustrial world she lives in, comfortabi

The Jazz Singer (Old A&D, 7 an
