The Senate bill would require President Carter to lift the 11-year old trade sanctions on Jan. 31, 1980, or upon the arrival of Zimbabwe Rhodesia of a British governor, which ever comes L I I -L J 516 E.UBERT A N ESCAPE FROM THIS WORLD WITH ROCK AND ROLL. That would give him an escape hatch if the agreement collapses between Britain, the Salisbury government of Prime Minister Abel Muzorewa, and black guerrillas of the Patriotic Front. Hopes that the negotiations would conclude in a few days were dampened last night when Patriotic Front guerrilla leaders threatened to tear up the ceasefire agreement if their final demand at the peace talks was not met. Agreement in principle to stop the fighting was reached yesterday bet- ween guerrilla chiefs Robert Mugabe andJoshua Nkomo and their foes, Muzorewa's biracial government. The demonstration against the possible deportation of Iranian students was held on the Diag., not in front of the Federal Building, as was reported in yesterday's Daily. But when the delegates, backed up by advisers, reached the conference table the discussion turned sour. Guerrilla spokesman Eddison° Zvobgo, reporting proceedings at the secret session, said his leaders had become frustrated. Nkomo warned that nothing had been signed, Zvobgo told a press conference. "WE COULD TEAR up the document and forget it. We reserve our position on the outstanding issues," Nkomo was reported as saying. Zvobgo said the remarks could be taken as a warning that there could still be failure at the conference, set up to arrange legal independence for Zim-' babwe Rhodesia. Under the British ceasefire plan, the guerrillas have been allocated 15 positions during the ceasefire, but no precise number of sites have been men= tioned for the Zimbabwe Rhodesia for ces. "WE WANT to know exactly where our opponents are going to be, other- wise there is no agreement," Zvobgo said. Military headquarters in Salisbury announced yesterday that 32 more people had' been killed in fighting with the guerrillas. Seventeen of the victims were black civilians, seven of whom were killed in a guerrilla ambush on the eastern Melsetter Umtali Road. Christmas Gif t Ideas from first down Under $1.0 Wool socks...
