(AP) -Sugar Ray Leonard knocked down Wilfred Benitez and stopped him in the closing seconds of the fight last night to win the World Boxing Council welterweight cham- pionship in the richest non-heavyweight bout ever held. The two men went toe-to-toe for most of the final three minutes. Then-with the clock winding down-Leonard crashed home a left hook to the jaw that dropped Benitez in a corner.
