Page 8-Friday, November 16, 1979-The Michigan Daily LSA-SG PROPOSAL TO BE ON BALLOT Voting procedure may By DAVID MEYER The LSA student government (LSA- SG) approved Wednesday night a ballot proposal that, if passed in the upcoming election, would change voting procedures in future elections. The proposal, introduced by LSA-SG Executive Council Member Rasool Ab- dul-Raheem, would end the use of preferential voting and replace it with approval voting. Under the current voting system, students number their 15 choices for the LSA-SG executive council in order of preference, and each vote is then weighed accordingly. Un- der the approval system, however, each one of the student's votes would recieve equal consideration. ANOTHER BALLOT proposal ap- proved by LSA-SG at the weekly. meeting seeks to raise the current LSA student government fee from 50 cents to 75 cents. LSA-SG Vice-President Kathy Friedman proposed four more ballot proposals, which were approved at Wednesday's meeting. They include: The extension of drop/add deadlines and pass/fail modifier deadlines: the inclusion of student representatives on the LSA Academic Actions Committee; the creation of a program to aid studen- ts in filling out graduate school ap- plications; and, the organization of a uniform program for training and supervising graduate teaching assistants. In other action, the council also allocated a total $1,703 in varying amounts to the following ten student organizations: The Undergraduate Politial Science Association, The Union of Students for Israel, Women in Action, -'0 7hange The Michigan Journal of Economics,-. The Asian-American Association, The Writers-in-Residence Program, The Residential College Action Collective,,.-' The Student Research and Education Project, Students for Employment and Economic Democracy, and Strategies for Personal Alternatives Symposium.
