Once the initial culture shock has worn off and you find yourself analyzing that hideous op-art concoc- Rather than reading a cryptic review of each gallery, it is far more beneficial to see and judge them for yourself. During the summer Ann Arbor has an annual art fair-a large event which draws ar- tists from all over the country as well as the natives. To your astonishment, there are ore than the requisite few showrooms atering to the creative. This refers of ourse to the many galleries dotting Ann Arbor, as well as the University's art museum (corner of S. University and State)-a delightful place for that hour or two between classes. Though conservatively run, it boasts works from the sixth century to the present as well as some fine exhibits such as the early Whistler show, the largest of its kind in the country. Besides the craft-type galleries (jewelry, leather, wicker, kitsch sculpture, etc.) there are those that deal in pre-Columbian bric-a- brac, objets d'art, tasteful ceramics, spectral blown glass, Indian, Eskimo, South American, and African sculpture and wall hangings beside the plethora of original lithograhs, etchings, acrylics, oils and watercolors' available.
