WMU divestment protestors arrested KALAMAZOO (UPI) - Eleven persons protesting Western Michigan University's holdings in companies that do business in South Africa were arrested yesterday when they tried to disrupt a board of trustees meeting.) The 11 were among 70 students, professors, and citizens who wanted the trustees to hear their views on the mat- ter. THE TRUSTEES, however, refused to listen to the protestors, saying they had heard their argtiments before and did not want to hear them again. Trustees have said WMU would use its proxy power to vote for human rights, but would not pull out of companies because of the South Africa apartheid issue. Eleven of the protestors blocked the trustees' exit and were arrested for disrupting a lawful meeting. The 11 wee not formally charged or arraigned but were freed on bond. Psalms 2:1 and Acts 4:25 The above question is asked by God Almighty Himself in the second Psalm of His Book, the Bible. Do you ask God to bless you? In the first Psalm He says the man Is blessed that departs from evil in his walk, his stand, his sitting, and "his delight Is in the law of the Lord; and In His law doth he meditate day and night." Have we a right to be heard and blessed on account of pur efforts to meet and fulfill these n conditions? In John 6:44, etc. Jesus said "No man can come to me, except the Father which sent me draw him --- And they shall all be taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me." Have we put ourselves In position to be "taught of God" by searching the Scriptures and meditating on His Word? It appears we are always "passing the buck" to the Almighty while in reality His Word "passes It to usl" In the second Psalm there is the opposite picture of the. "Blessed Man." It shows us men raging and rebelling against ' God, and His Anointed, In order to break the bands and cast away the cords of His 'Thou shalt nots." His Moral Law and r; Ten Commandments. So, Instead of being blessed men and nations we have God's curse poured out upon us;His laughter and derision, His wrath and displeasure that sorely vexes mankind. "He maketh the judges fools - He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty." Job 12:17,21. And there are numbers of other such passages which reveal God's attitude and actions toward men and nations that forget His Lawsl We blame this man and that, this nation and that, but ac- cording to God's message here the blame lies at the door of all who refuse to depart from evil but choose to rage against the Almighty. Read Luke 13:1-5, and make the application. Elijah, the man taken to heaven without dying, by-passing the grave, said to King Ahab: 1 have not troubled Israel, but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the Commandments of God..." 1st Kings 18:16. "There Is no peace saith my God, to the wicked. Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumphet, and show my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob theirsin." "Behold, I stand at the door, ind knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will. come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me." Rev. 3:20. AP Photo PROTEST LEADER Rev. Donald Van Hoevan is arrested at Western Michigan University. Ten others were arrested attempting to disrupt a board of trustees meeting yesterday to express their disapproval of WMU's investments in South Africa. Daily Official Bulletin Monday.
