WHAT COULD this man be thinking
at this point? Bo Schembechler, the
man who along with Don Canham
built Michigan into the awesome
football power it now is, jogs onto the
field prior to last season's saddening
17-10 Rose Bowl loss to USC. The
Wolverines under Schembechler
have won eight Big Ten champion-
ships and played in five Rose Bowl
games, along with one Orange Bowl
tilt, none of which Michigan has
won. During that period, the
Wolverines' regular season record
has been 96-9-3. He took over the
head coaching position in December
of 1968, succeeding Bump Elliot, whg.
now serves as Iowa's athletic direc-
tor.

COMPLETE OR interception? There weren't nearly enough of the former against USC by departed Michigan quarterback
Rick Leach in last year's Rose Bowl loss. Wolverine coach Bo Schembechler used the pass more and more as Leach matured
as. a Michigan quarterback, but it remains to be seen how much Michigan shall throw the ball this year. Schembechler has
said that will depend on who starts at quarterback this season and what his strengths are.
