Medicaid abortions
WASHINGTON (AP) - In a victory
for forces against abortions, the House
voted yesterday to give states the right
to refuse to spend their share of
Medicaid funds to terminate pregnan-
cies for low-income women.
It was the first time in, recent
memory the House got into the issue of
states' rights in Medicaid funding and
into the question of whether states must
abide by federal regulations in paying
for abortions for needy women.
Under the proposal, passed 235 to 155,
states would not have to spend their
own Medicaid money for abortions even
if the mother's life was threatened by
carrying the fetus to full term.

feature-length film made by a Cuban woman. Also to be shown: MY NAME
IS OONAI an example of the American Independent film/poem, and A
COMEDY IN SIX UNNATURAL ACTS, made by a collective of radical
lesbians confronting the issue of homophobia.
