Page 8-Tuesday, December 11, 1979-The Michigan Daily Out of bounds: Scenes from the sidelines 4 A fan in the stands of Michigan Stadium generally devotes his or her attention to the ac- tion on the field. Sitting high above the artificial turf with friends and tens of thousands of strangers, one has only beer, antics in the stands, and the passing blimp for distraction between plays. But down on the sidelines there's excitement, and isolation, that doesn't involve most fans. The territory on the edge of the main event is scouted by photographers, cheerleaders, policemen, and the occasional football fanatic clamoring for at- tention or maneuvering for a better view. And amidst the action are benchwarmers, coaches, and referees, waiting, watching, conferring. At the end of another football season, here are scenes gathered during a season on the sidelines. /, Photos by Maureen O'Malley --us W4 q . 4 N ~ 4 4' I ~,.R
