Michigan beat Iowa by 34, Purdue
took Northwestern by 31, Michigan

polls.
Ironically, Ohio State, ranked num-
ber 20 in the UPI last week, fell-out of
the elite group despite destroying
Wisconsin 49-14.
The Wolverines moved up to seventh
in both polls when Maryland slid hard
and fast into the number 13 (AP) and

record (5-3) of any of the ranked teams,
but the Spartans' defeats came at the
hands of No. 12 Purdue, No. 5 Southern

Cal and Notre Dame, ranked 14th in the
AP and 13th in the UPI poll.
Navy remained in the top twenty
even though the Midshipmen were
trounced 27-7 by the Irish at Cleveland.
Navy and Maryland were the only
teams in the list to lose and Texas was
idle.
Washington (17th) and Pittsburgh
(20th) were the two teams making ap-

pearances in the UPI poll that were not
listed last week.
The polls will definitely undergo a
shakeup after this Saturday's games.
The reason: Top ranked Oklahoma
travels to Nebraska who owns the num-
ber four spot in both polls. Also
Louisiana State (11th in the UPI, 10th in
the AP) meets No. 3 Alabama.
