Spy rules drafted The Michigan Daily-Saturday, October 14, 1978-Page 7 Apartheid attacked Just because you 're PA R A A(I/ . (Continued from Page 1) " "The express prior consent'' of an Y individual be obtained before the in- ' Mividual's name is mentioned to an in- 7t elligence agency for possible recruit- ment; " University members ''should not 7lend their names and positions to gain public acceptance for material they know to be misleading or untrue." The document also calls for any staff member to "consider whether the task is consistent with his/her scholarly and kp>rofessional obligations" before accep- l ing any research or consulting work. GCLB members did not appear to be F bothered by the CIA's decision to ignore rsimilar guidelines approved by Hsar- yard University, or by a letter from CIA head Admiral Stansfield Turner to University President Robben Fleming objecting to the formulation of last year's guidelines. "I t is important that the issue is ad- dressed at .all," CLB member Judy Phair said. "The Board doesn't have the authority to put teeth into it (the document). We could have formulated a very harsh statement but we couldn't enforce that either," Phair added. CLB members held an optimistic view of the chances for passage of the current regulations. "I think this, (draft) should answer most of the problems the Faculty Senate had with it last time around," Phair said. She added that she felt the newly proposed rules address the problems of academic freedom adequately. Heumann stressed that the current statement was merely a preliminary draft that would probably undergo fur- ther change. Heumann said he will discuss the guidelines with SACUA Chairman Shaw Livermore before the statement is presented to the entire SACUA body. Continued from Page 1) DURING THAT particular dance, Aduonum began shouting a rallying call to ask the dancers if they were ready for the struggle. "They responded by shouting that we have already been victorious," he said. WCCAA was created last spring to wage a campaign to force the Univer- sity to divest its holdings in South Africa. The group meets weekly to plan programs to raise student con- sciousness of the apartheid system. THE UNIVERSITY Boardof Regents voted in March to keep its investments and seek responses from the banks and corporations with investments there about their South African holdings. Debbie Duke,, a member of the coalition, said the rally was also direc- ted at showing students that the group has remained active and will continue the struggle for liberation, despite its initial setbacks. "We aren't going to get out of it. A lot of people thought we had given up but that's just not true," said Duke. Kate Rubin, a coalition member and Michigan Student Assembly represen- tative, said the University delayed any concrete action on its March resolution until about a month ago and hasn't changed its basic view toward divestiture, To convey their resentment at the Regents' position, coalition members performed a dramatic presentation showing characters representing the University, General Motors, and the black and white workers in South Africa. THE PLAY SHOWED' the character imitating the University asking a student for his tuition and then proceeding to invest it in General Motors. After "General Motors" in the United States had sliced the money in half it handed that portion to its sub- sidiary in South Africa. The subsidiary, in turn, also sliced it considerably and passed it to the workers who only received a very small share. Next weekend, representatives from over 50 midwest colleges and univer- sities will gather in Evanston, Illinois and discuss ideas and suggestions for anti-apartheid activities. "It will be a working conference, an exhange of idea where we can plan for the future and work* for divestment," said Duke. doesn't mean we're not out to get you Maybe we should say. . GET, ACQUAINTED WITH YOU. You are invited to STUDENT SUNDAY tomorrow (Oct. 15) at bniversity Church of the Nazarene 409,S. Division St. 9:45 a.m. Time of Getting Acquainted 11:00 a.m. Worship Hour with "The Living Light" (contemporary musical group) 1 2 noon Fellowship Meal' I - r ERA themte of new game (Continued from Page 1) "The idea for the game came up at a dinner party," explained Lax. "Although we were with a well- informed group, we found we didn't know a lot about the ERA." LAX AND GREEN have worked on games before and took their basic idea to game consultant Joan Ross. After the preliminary design was outlined, they commissioned Sally Everhardus of University Publications to draw the playing board. Superimposed on the map are a series of role-reversal caricatures of men hula dancing and pondering what type of laundry 'detergent is best. In another part of the country, female football players run across the board, in addition to presiding at meetings. Lax, who is also an urban planning instructor at the University, said the game is still in the marketing process. Already updated because of the three- year extension of the ratification deadline, the game will be available in early November at book and depar- tment stores, and also by mail. The game has also been discussed as a fun- draising project .for groups such as the National Organization for Women. Part of the proceeds from sales will go for ratification efforts, according to Lax. The suggested retail price is $3.95 in stores, and $4.50 by mail order from Lilax Productions, 320 City Center Building, Ann Arbor. 49104.
