Washington A wholesome~sort of bar, if there is such thing, old-fashioned sing-alongs are a ain attraction on the weekends. Also erves a full menu. HE BLIND PIG 208 S. First ive blues and jazz in the basement of n old house. The roof leaks a bit but here's a well-stocked bar. Often 'rowded but its more fun that way. BLUE FROGGE 611 Church nn Arbor's best-known disco. And isco it is, from the high-priced drinks o the flashing lights. The service is ex- remely slow and unless you're really here to dance, this place can be a ragge. AMPUS INN BAR E. Huron at State uge tropical plants create a jungle tmosphere in the glassed-in bar. Or- ering a drink during happy hour en- itles you to free cheese and crackers. HE DEL-RIO 122 W. Liberty he Del offers good, inexpensive drinks n a quiet, friendly atmosphere. Good urgers and decent pizza, not to men- ion live jazz concerts on Sunday. QOLEY'S 310 Maynard ne of the most popular bars on cam- us, Dooley's is huge, crowded and loud. Pinball and pizza are other notable features along with Shakey Jake who is usually in the middle of everything. The place to be on St. Pad- dy's Day. THE EARLE 121 W. Washington Top-flight entertainment in a nice atmosphere but not cheap, i.e. meat and cheese plate costs $4, plus there's a nightly cover. THE FLAME 115 Washington Reputed to be the gay bar in town, the Flame serves inexpensive drinks right up until closing. FRASER'S PUB 2045 Packard Lots of fraternity and sorority students frequent this bar which boasts a 6-foot- TV screen. In the summer, local sof- tball players congregate to celebrate a win or a loss, it doesn't really matter. JACKSON RD. LOGGING COMPANY Jackson Rd. at I-94 A combination disco and restaurant, students don't make it out there too of- ten except for special occasions. Dress appropriately. THE LIBERTY INN 112 W. Liberty Velvet pictures of pretty ladies adorn the walls and there's pool in the back of this working class bar. Students don't usually go there on purpose but a lot of them wander in at some point during, their stay in Ann Arbor. MR. FLOOD'S PARTY 120 W. Liberty Bluegrass music sets the foot-stomping tone at Flood's. Stained glass and moose heads add to the decor, but get there early - it's usually packed. THE OLD TOWN 122 W. Liberty The decor is somewhat similar to the dark lighting and wooden floors of the Del Rio. The Old Town isn't as nice, but it is nonetheless a good place for a quiet drink with friends. THE RUBAIYAT 102 S. First Known primarily as a bar, the Rubaiyat also serves a lot of good food. Wednesdays there's a $5.95 all-you-can- eat buffet. Dancing nightly. THE STAR LOUNGE Main St. When the pinball machine here tilts, it is one of the loudest in town. Maybe that's because it is genuinely more sen- CHEZ CREPE 328 S. Main Offering the obvious, this restaurant creates the French delight in many varieties. This restaurant is the only place in town for French cuisine and even boasts a variety of famous visitors' pictures eating their crepes. Un peu cher. FALAFIL PALACE FALAFIL HUT_ OLD HEIDELBERG 215 N. Main Students often frequent the Rathskeller for folk music on weekends. The food in the main dining room is less than authentic but the service is excellent. Prices are average with drinks cheap. University On Thursday night it's next to im- possible to plow your way through the crowd of fraternity brothers and sorority sisters gearing up for the weekend. The V-Bell offers a complete menu but the food isn't really all that good. SEthnic ATHENIAN 120 E. Washington If late-night cravings send you hunting for Greek food, this all-night eaterie will serve your needs. American food can also be obtained there, but in general all food is very edible. CATHAY HOUSE Briarwood Mall Fairly reasonable prices mark this place. Doesn't offer anything out of the ordinary selection of chow meins, or egg foo young. scrumptious desserts and average falafils. FALSETTA'S SIDEDOOR 2200 Pittsfield Blvd. This is yet another ethnic restaurant with reasonable prices. Features the only low-calorie Italian dishes in A2. Veal Parmesan is excellent. FOUR SEAS 4905 Washtenaw Features cantonese and American food. Not bad, nothing new. HUNG WAN 2560 Packard Georgetown Mall This Oriental restaurant is reputed to have the best Mandarin food around town. It features very spicy and unusual items but don't wait until Mon- day to go there-they're closed. KAMAKURA 611 Church A very good Japanese restaurant, this eaterie is locfted in a prime location for students. Your bill won't be big, but your tummy will be delighted. LEO PING 118 W. Liberty Better-than-average Chinese food. Prices are okay, too. LOS BURROS 400 Maynard About the only Mexican food restaurant near campus, this spicy eaterie is a tad expensive but offers more than stan- dard tacos. METZGER'S 203 E. Washington Offers German and Ameican food but is not often frequented by students. Prices moderate. OLD CHINA 505 W. Cross, Ypsi This one takes a little travel but is reputed to serve outstanding Chinese food. Prices sway with a moderate trend. OLD GERMAN RESTAURANT 120 W. Washington This German restaurant's most distinguishable feature is take-out Bavarian edibles. Regular service is okay. RAJA RANI Huron at Washtenaw Ct. It heartburn's your trip, then a trip to this very spicy restaurant is for you. Very good curry chicken and prices are moderate. THE PAGODA 311 S. Main Big portions mark this slightly better than average Chinese-American eaterie. Prices are what's to be expec- ted. Natural Foods EDEN'S 330 Maynard Known for its hot or cold chapatis, which are salads stuffed into a special pouch, this natural foods restaurant caters to vegetarians and chapati lovers alike. Reasonably priced, good selection. Also has a natural foods grocery in front. SEVA LONGEVITY COOKERY 314 E. Liberty This restaurant features a warm at- mosphere with classical music playing softly in the background. Excellent, again vegetarian. A tad more expen- sive, but good service and unusual menu. Strawberry smoothies recom- mended. TURTLE ISLAND 315 S. State Less popular than the other natural foods eateries, this restaurant does have some good dishes. Menu is not ex- tensive. Vegetarians should be prepared to not eat cheaply but well in AZ-especially at Turtle Island.
