Mon.-Fri. 1 P.M. Sat. & Sun. By LIZ MAC Amid shouts of "Bring out the rowing team," the Michigan undergrad soccer club battled to a 0-0 tie yesterday at Eastern Michigan. In a downpour that lasted the entire first half, Eastern dominated the early part of the game while Michigan evened the pace with a strong second half. After a 20 minute overtime, the game ended with the score deadlocked. DESPITE THE soggy field and a strong cross-field wind, the game was fast paced and both teams ran hard. For the Blue squad, new team mem- ber Mohamed Al-Hamad "played ex- tremely well," noted Coach Steve Olsen. Also turning in fine performan- ces were goalkeepers Richard Mathews and Jeff Boudin. "We were here an hour and a half early," explained Olsen. "That set us back right there." Next on the schedule for the club is a home game with a combined Indiana- Purdue squad at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. ELSEWHERE AROUND the club sports circuit, the graduate soccer club evened its record at 1-1 by outstepping the Bechtal Corporation club 7-0 Tuesday night. Two of the goals were scored by Lounes Rahbi, while Erman Lepley, Jim Landau, and Rob Neal also con- tributed to the onesided score. Diego Muntilla was a standout on defense for the Michigan club, while goaltenders Jon LaRose and Woody Woodworth combined forces in the shutout. Two other sport ,clubs have been keeping in tune with exhibition games. The water polo club scrimmaged with Ann Arbor Huron and Pioneer high schools last Friday 'and Monday respectively. The starting squad showed itself to be ready for upcoming games with Western Michigan and Michigan State. Also slated to meet Michigan State is the Lacrosse club. Other tentatively scheduled contests are at Notre Dame and at Chicago. RUMORS OF A Carter-Brezhnev summit meeting are actually a clever Soviet ruse to cover up the real reason for the Russian party Boss' up- coming visit to the U.S. "He's got some inside information from the Soviet Sports Information Center in the Kremlin (SICK)," said a high diplomatic source, "and he wants to make an unscheduled flight from Camp David to Ann Arbor, where he can turn in his Gridde picks and possibly win a small two-item pizza from Pizza Bob's." Brezhnev is said to have long coveted the prize and intelligence sources say he has a strong preference for pep- peroni and mushrooms with occasional revisionist leanings toward anchovies or possibly green peppers. (A tendency he has been forced to neglect in Moscow, where red peppers predominate.) Presidential press secretary Jody Powell refused to confirm the infor- mation but he did have a comment direc- ted towards American college football fans. "I certainly hope that interested Americans will show a little bit of the old frontier spirit," he said, "and try to get their own Gridde picks into the Michigan Daily at 420 Maynard by midnight Friday. Soviet adventurism in this contest has long been an area of presidential concern. A clean Brezhnev victory might signal to the rest of the free world that we are weakening in this crucial arena." Asked about President Carter's personal plans, Powell said, "He's working on his slate and advises the American public to pick the Daily Libels by a landslide over Wayne Duke State." 1.
