Page 6-Wednesday, September 13, 1978--The Michigan Daily A little country, rock, and lots of blues if you BY LILY PRIGIONERO In 1961, Jim Kreskin formed a jug band that included Geoff Muldaur and See Amos Garrett and eventually recorded The Blues Project. Later Muldaur and Garrett joined Better Days, a blues group that featured Paul Butterfield and included Muldaur's ex-wife Maria as an occasional guest. Since then, Geoff Muldaur and Amos A Garrett have never stopped following each other. At the Ark Monday night, Ca there was a little bit of country, a little bit of rock and roll, and lots of blues as these two performers tuned up their 76-DA ILY electric guitars and plugged in their amplifiers. IT WAS CLEAR from the outset that these musicians have vastly different vocal qualities. In contrast to Muldaur's great wailing voice, NHN FORD'S 1939 STAGECOACH A group of outcasts and misfits are tossed by circumstances into 0 stagecoach headed through Indian territory. The opening blues number ("Slow Consumption," I believe) also revealed Garrett's amazing talent for intricate guitar picking and blues-bending. On the other hand, Muldaur's keyboard techniques left something to be desired, and his piano accompanied "Why Should I Love You" wasn't one of the evening's better points. The highlights came when the musicians intertwined their senses of humor, exhibiting the natural pleasure they derive from their music. "Lazy Bones" was "talking" music, laid-back and perfect for Garrett's voice. Garrett got so involved with his playing one wondered if he was conscious of anything else. "Hold on a see, let me finish this," he would shoot back to his partner, so he could finish a chord progression. Geoff Muldaur and Amos Garrett's better days aren't over. They're on their way to entertaining many more, just as they have been since their band broke up in 1969. When these two talents combine, the music never dies out.
