College Football Returning for his 10th year as Master of Ceremonies, Glenn E. (Bo) Schembechler welcomes us all to another exciting season of "Name The Point Spread." Yes, guys and gals, game show fans and gamblers, our boy Bo has lined up for your approval another fine football team completely equipped with all the parts necessary to rip, tear, shread, mutilate and destroy the likes of such keen competition as Duke and Arizona. Once again, the Wolverines will seek that ever elusive perfect season capped by that dream of dreams-a national championship! We invite you to join us as another season of fun football begins when the Wolverines take on conferen- ce foe Illinois at the Stadium this Saturday. Game time is 1:30 but the cheerleaders, pom-pom girls and the marching band will appear about one- half hour earlier. Havifun folks, only this year;leave your booze, frisbees, and obscene cheers at lome. Uncle Don doesn't like those things any more. The rest of the Big Ten schedule shapes up this way: -Penn State at Ohio State Michigan State at Purdue -Minnesota at Toledo Richmond at Wisconsin Indiana at LSU (night) And for those of you that really care about such things, here are the only other decent matchups around the country: Alabama at Missouri Central Michigan at Miami of Ohio St. Norbert at Austin Peay All games are scheduled for Saturday. Pro Football The pros continue play in this first year of the elongated schedule. Petey Rozelle has this following list for us to peruse: Buffalo at Miami Pittsburgh at Cincinnati Chicago at Detroit San Diego at Denver Cleveland at Atlanta San Francisco at Houston Dallas at Los Angeles Tampa Bay at Minnesota Kansas City at N.Y. Giants Washington at St. Louis Oakland at Green Bay And by far the most exciting game Philadelphia at New Orleans of the week: Seattle at N.Y. Jets. Boxing As if you didn't know, this Friday you can sit back and watch as ABC televises the celebrated rematch between Eugene Crumsby and Fred- dy Pismo. No, seriously, Muhammed (Mouth) Ali will attempt to regain the heavyweight crown he lost earlier to Leon (Teeth) Spinks. It should be a good fight in the mold of such earlier classics as, for example the Norton- Bobick marathon. Elsewhere This being just the first full week of school, it's a little early for any Michigan intercollegiate sports to begin (besides football, of course). However, one school team is competing this week as the women's golf team travels to Normal, Illinois to participate in the Illinois State Invitational this Friday and Saturday. A bus trip is being planned but hurry, there aren't that many spaces left. Check this space same time next week for another week's worth of sports schedules and other wortniess information. Until then . . -BRIAN MILLER The Michigan Daily-Tuesday, September 12, 1978-Page 13 GRILIDE PICKS T HE DAY is Friday, September 15th. The place is New Orleans. The Superdome. Muhammad Ali and Leon Spinks s>' have battled it out for 14 ferocious rounds. Most of the judges have it dead even - seven rounds Ali, seven rounds Spinks. The tension mounts in the heated arena, as the spectators and combatants wipe yet another bead of perspiration from a drenched brow. ALI SITS slumped in his corner, a towel draped over his head, awaiting the bell for the start of the 15th. He glances into the Spinks corner and scowls. Suddenly, Ali's eyes bug and he jumps to his feet. "Look, Angelo!" he cries. "Thas it! Thas the same black AP Photo bottle Spinks drank from the lass time, as Min- when he whupped me in February!" t night's Spinks sipped from his mysterious bottle and squinted at a waterlogged label. After several moments of concentration, he motioned for one of e ts hs trainers to lean over. Spinkscupped hshands to his mouth and whispered to his trainer, "The Libels by 14." His trainer looked at him incredulously. "HURRY!" SPINKS persisted. "I've only got to midnight Friday to get these picks in to the Daily at 420 Maynard so I em whenhave a shot at a small two-item pizza days and from Pizza Bob's." "But why the Libels by 14?" ' is -fair demanded the trainer. Renfrew "Because, the Libels, like Leon, too, but never . . . " But he was unable to finish his sentence, as the bell sounded to begin the final round. i. The athletic department ticket office has issued a conditional reprieve to all students that have not picked up their tickets. An item on page three of the Saturday Ann Arbor News said that students had not picked up their quota of tickets and that those tickets remaining would be made available for public consumption as of Sunday, September 10. Many students were in an uproar when they saw this announcement, but ticket manager Al Renfew has clarified the situation. "We've given students an extension to pick up their tickets because many did not return to school by the time of, the first deadline. "However, if tickets available for the public run out, we will start distributing those student tickets that haven't been redeemed." Renfrew said that one reason there are a lot of student tickets remaining is an overestimation made by the ticket office last spring. "We wanted to give the students a cushion, so there would be tickets for all those who wanted them. We covered ourselves pretty well. Of course we never know how many students drop outkand therefore cannot use their tickets." The whole ticket distribution plan is a new concept that had been sought after for several years, after many people complained about the old syst students would wait in line for even weeks for a good seat. "Students think this systen and better than the old way," said. "We think it's more fair while it's better for the stud more work for us at the ticket o "The best advice I can giv student that hasn't redeemed h ticket yet is to do that as possible because we will star them when we run out of t tickets." dents it's ffice.
