The Residential College senior, who asked not to be identified, is the leading murderer - with 1.1 "hits" - in the Third Annual Killer Contest in East Quad this year. He was among nine of the original 165 players who were still alive last night. THE GAME, which began at six o'clock on Nov. 13, involves a circle of assassins who will "kill" to be the lone survivor in the group. Supplied with darts and dart guns, the "hit people" are each assigned victims to eliminate from the contest. Players may not, however, be shot in view of more than two witnesses. "Killer Joe" said he has performed several unusual hits, including one in which he gunned down his target in the elevator. "One of my other victims was talking to a professor after class about the killer game, saying how assassins kill their victims, and I walked in and said 'For example. . . ' " the marksman said. "KILLER JOE"also said he turned off the electricity in one of his victims' rooms, and then gunned down the resident when he came out of his room to see what was wrong. The game, which has doubled in size from last year's contest, "builds some kind of community," said coordinator Lenny Pitt. The East Quad. Resident Fellow hazarded a guess that the game would be over "within two days." THOUGH most players praise the game, several have complained that this year's edition has already lasted too long. Last year the game was ove by Thanksgiving break. "It's getting very boring," said freshperson Sue Vala, who is still "alive." "I'm very suspicious of everyone I meet. It's getting to be a real burden. I wouldn't play again. It's too much hassle. "I was going to commit suicide and get it all over with, but I don't have the guts to do it," Vala added. "KIller Joe" said he sees the game on two symbolic levels. "I think it displays the intrinsic paranoia upon which the American society is based. It's also a simulation of school; you try and knock off your classmates by getting better grades," he said. According to the rules, the final sur- vivor shall "commit suicide."
