Nix- on is the top contender for the Republican nomination since New York's Governor Nelson A. Rocke- feller's withdrawal, from the race Dec. 26. He is expected to"enter his first primary - New Hamp- shire's on .Mar. 8 -- for a pre- liminary test- of his strength. The badly divided Democrats have six months to make their -decision. on choice of candidate. Their most probable choices are Adlai Stevenson, chosen by the party in both the 1952 and 1956 elections; and Sen. Stuart Syming- ton (D-Mo.) who has not yet de- clared his decision to run or not. Sen. John F. Kennedy (D- M , who announced his can- didacy recently is also a strong contender and has challenged other hopefuls to compete with him in the primaries. Also under consideration for the Democratic nomination are Sen. Hubert Humphrey (D-Minn.), a liberal who has very definite ideas. on proposed action, and Sen. Lyn- don Johnson (D-Tex.), tie Senate majority leader who opposes the Northern "liberal" wing of his party. 1-5 at the Mendelssohn Theatre, are asked to send their name and addresses on a postal card to Rheingold Libretto, Dept. of Speech.
