Michigan's swimmers will be re- turning to action after a one- month layoff. Then the Wolverines, with only a night's rest, will defend ,their Big Ten Relays title tomorrow. Tonight's meet will see Coach Gus Stager's Wolverines seeking their 28th consecutive dual vic- tory.;'They are strong favorites to do so. Stager, although undecided on th. lineup for ,tonight, is planning to use this meet to give his sopho- mores their first taste of varsity competition. Western Ontario coached by John Faulkner finished second to Toronto in the Canadian Col- legiate Championships. Besides Michigan and Indiana, Ohio State, Iowa° State and host Michigan State are entered in the Relays. . Last year the Wolverines were victorious in nine of 10 swimming events and were edged by Ohio State in the diving relay. Out to Revenge Defeat Alex Gaxiola, John Smith and Fred Wolf will be out to defeat. Indiana in the 300-yard back- stroke relay, the only event Michi- gan lost last year. However, they are expected to run into stiff competition from the Hoosiers again, whose team is spearheaded by Frank McKinney, Big Ten, NCAA, AAU and Pan-American backstroke champion. "We always look forward to the Relays. They provide a welcome relief from 'the normal grind," Stager said. "We plan to concentrate our efforts on the relays, such as the 400-yard medlay and 400-yard freestyle, which we swim in regu- lar competition,"' he stated.
