SDAY, DECEMBER 16, 1959:T HEM IC1HiAND iAILY PAGE PAGE 1 I - moommomm I ____________________________________________________f By RALPH KAPLAN COLUMBUS-A resolution ask- ing that landlords practicing dis- crimination not be allowed to have their !pr.operty registered has passed the Ohio State University, Council on Student Affairs. The resolution, passed by the Student Senate last week, will next be sent to the Faculty Coun- cil. The big question of the meet, ing last week was whether or not CSA should have been requested by Student Senate to send the resolution to the Faculty Council and also whether CSA should have had the right as to where the resolution should be channeled from Senate. The Senate President said Sen- ate wanted the resolution to go to the faculty group for considera- tion and any action that the Faculty Council might want to take. ' C * I I 1 1 i 7 l i (in groups of four) CAMBRIDGE - Harvard Uni- versity's non-honors tutorial pro- gram, dropped last February, may be revived by the faculty next term. The plan for non-honors tu- torial has four features. The tu- torial will be voluntary, graded and will run throughout the year. Programs will center in the houses as part of student-house communication. Interdepartmen- tal programs will be arranged as far as possible, but the availability of teachers will receive greater consideration than subject matter.. Last February, the Committee on Educational Policy tentatively outlined a plan for non-honors tutorial. "It is; to be hoped," the Com- mittee wrote, "that for each field of concentration a program of group tutorial or small discussion sessions might develop in the houses for non-honors seniors. The Committee hopes that each department will be prepared to implement a non - honors pro- gram." * * * BERKELEY-The Liaison Com- mittee between the State Board of Education and the Regents at'the University of California are dis- cussing atrecommendation on higher education for the state sub- pnitted by a master plan survey team. Areas which are predicted to be, most controversial, such as divi- sion of functions among the state colleges and university, and the structure for the organization, contrpl and administration of pub- lic higher education, were not in- cluded in the preliminary 18-page report. The Liaison Committee is meet- ing prior to a joint meeting of the State Board of Education and the Board of Regents in Berkeley on Friday. * * * BOULDER - The director of honors at University of Colorado has blasted the "unhealthy atti- tude" of fraternity and sorority members' scholarship. In an article in the December issue of "The Fraternity Monthly," Walter Weir said, "Unashamed concern with things of the in- tellect seems rather rare on state university campuses today. "The extraordinary devotion of some Greek houses to the social aspects of life has become a by- word," he continued. "The development of the stu- dent's mind, the opportunity for him to penetrate his cultural her- itage, and all the preparations he must make .. . are relegated to a few fugitive hours each week," he - asserted.
