Thirty-eight states, Washing- ton, D.C., and Canada will have representatives on the 10 Western Conference teams. Extremes in recruiting are rep- resented by Illinois and Iowa. The Illini will use players from only 10 Manager Wanted Anyone wanting to be a foot-f ball manager should contact John Jabe at football practice. states while the Hawkeyes have combed 18 states to fill their 63- man squad. Michigan. despite competition with Michigan State for home- grown gridders, will rely oin a large amount of state high school products and so are near the bot- tom on far-flung players. Twelve states will have representation on Bump Elliott's team. Michigan is a distant third with 94. Again Iowa is at the opposite end of the scale, having produced only 17 players for the Confer- ence. And only one of these has forsaken the Hawkeyes. Illinois leads in the use of home grown products with 58 being list- ed on Coach Ray Eliot's roster. Ohio State is next with 55. Michi- gan and Michigan State combined have 76 home state players, the Wolverines getting 42 and MSU, 34. Michigan, Northwestern and Iowa come the closest in boasting players from all the states in which Big Ten schools are located. The first two were shut out only in Iowa, while the latter has no players from Indiana. Also, the attraction of Forrest E v a s h e v s k i, former Michigan great, at Iowa, has brought 11 Michigan high school players to the Hawkeyes. Most of these, how- ever, decided on Iowa when Bump Elliott was still coaching there. With Elliott back, now as Wolver- ine head coach, it is quite likely that. Iowa's Michigan haul will diminish in the future. Big Ten Talent Chart SCHOOL Illinois Indiana Ohio State Minnesota Michigan Purdue Wisconsin Northwestern Iowa.
