Miller once again displayed the leadership and ball-handling skills that has tabbed him as one of the Big Ten's outstanding guards. He was back at full strength after undergoing what appears to be a successful knee operation. this fall. Alternating with him at the other guard slot were junior Rich Robins and, sophomore Dick Clark, who each contributed seven points. Coach Bill Perigo is un- decided as to who will get the starting nod against Pittsburgh. Farris Scores 12 Center Lovell Farris, who at 6'3" will always be battling a tow- ering opponent, came through ad- 'mirably against 6'T" Tom Cole, all-stater from Springfield, Ill. Farris twisted and hooked his way to 12 points, while holding the fast-moving but cold-shooting Cole to three. Switching at the forward spot opposite Tidwell were another junior and -sophomore, Dick Don- ley and Scott Maentz. ,The 6'S" Donley, the varsity's tallest man and much improved over the past two years, added six while Maentz hit on two field goals for four' points. It was only Maentz' second day on the basketball court, making' the transition from end on the, football team. But his perform-; ance, although hampered by ex- cess poundage and slowness afoot, belied this. He added plenty of support on the boards and fitted well into the Wolverines' fast break patterns. Michigan's football team will bring its official business of 1959 to a close this afternoon with the election of its most valuable play- er and 1960 captain. The winners succeeded Chi Phi as holder of the A. D. Stragilian trophy, initiated last year. Mogk completed nine of seventeen passes, one for a touchdown, and ran for the other two SAE scores. After a scoreless first period In which neither team could muster a sustained offensive drive, SAE stopped a Kelsey threat at the 20- yard line and struck back in five plays for a score. Fred Loser carried on a reverse for 12, and then swept the Kelsey right end for a first down on the Kelsey 39. Here Mogk took over. Kucher re- versed his field and lobbed a lat- eral back to Mogk, following up the play. Mogk ran to the Kelsey 20, then found Ratterman again, dumping tie 'hot potato' in his lap and de- livering a bruising block on a Kelsey defender to spring Ratter- man loose to the four-yard line. Mogk carried to the one and on the next play dove into the end zone for the score. He passed for the extra points. The winners' other touchdowns were scored in less spectacular fashion. Early in the third stanza Mogk put SAE on the scoreboard again, driving inside his own right end from 14 yards out. Kucher pulled down the conversion pass. The winners took advantage of a short Kelsey punt minutes lat- er and covered 25 yards in three plays, Gary MacDonald making a diving catch of a Mogk pass for a three-yard score. With less than three minutes left in the game, a wild pass from center went out of the Kelsey end zone for a safety. i By HAL APPLEBAUM Michigan's mighty swim team, winner of three straight NCAA championships, will preview the 1959-60 season today when it splits into two squads for the annual intersquad meet.
