LSA Group To Discuss Curriculum By JEAN SPENCER Members of the literary college steering cormittee will hold a joint meeting with the University curriculum committee to outline general topics of curriculum con- cern. Dean James A. Robertson cited the curriculum committee's aware- ness of faculty concern about the student's interests and its willing- ness to accept constructive sug- gestion. Steering committee members attending the joint meeting will include Chairman Phillips Zook, '60, Sanford Holo, '60, Gretchen Burgie, '60, Patricia Petruschke, '60, Maurice Zilber, '60, Byron Gold, Grad. and Lynnel Marg, '61. Topics Discussed Topics to be discussed will in- clhde 1) comprehensive examina- tions, 2) abolition of the freshman English requirement to be replaced by regularly assigned papers in all courses, which would be corrected by the English department, 3) a required course in logic or axio- matic method on a freshman, level and 4) changes in the humanities distribution requirements, among others. Carol Handschumaker, '60Ed., president of the Student Council of the edcation school; sat in at the meeting to answer questions from committee members. Lynnel Marg, '60, began by ask- ing about separate sections in edu- cational psychology for future pri- mary and secondary school teach- ers. Miss Handschumaker replied that one section is offered for sec- ondary school teachers but is not listed in the time schedule. Added Material The feasibility of more sections for secondary school teachers was discussed in the light of adding material on adolescence. Byron Gold, Grad., commented on the duplication of -material from Psychology 31, a prerequisite of educational psychology, and the committee decided to investigate this requirement.
