Also, popular are the two piece dress ensembles that go to a concert or play with jacket on and be- comes a shimmering cocktail dress afterward with jacket off. The satin sheath with a match- ing or contrasting overskirt is the idea outfit for the girl who likes" changing from a siren to a bouf- fant mood. Bouffant Sleeves Bouffant is also the last word in sleeves. The length of these sleeves varies from a short puff to the long, flowing puff. Comparable to the bouffant is the sleeve with fur trim. This trim is often carried out on collars of dresses and jack- ets, but is not seen on the hem- line this year, The- favorite style in casual .dresses, the shirt dress, has evolved into something that can be worn anywhere, anytime. The latest version could go to a pledge formal. It is styled in chif- fon, .lace and pure silk. . These versatile creations come in both one and two-piece ensembles. Popular for the not-so-dressy occasions are the printed wools and jerseys. Both materials are done up in the basic. and classic styles. Wool dresses occur, in diverse creations, with an increasing num- ber of dressy wools being worn this fall. The favorite black leads the show accompanied by the new moss or loden green. Chiffon, Jersey Combination White, always a favorite around the winter holidays should be even more popular this winter, includ-! ing costumes of white with a print, in chiffon and wool jersey combinations. There is no set style this sea- son, except perhaps the trend to- wai'd the classic. Dresses definite-I ly show a waistline; the low back' has some influence; the bouffant sleeve is popular, but not predom- inant. So this year at least, women need not fear looking like every- one else. She may lead the band in a form fitting brocade sheath, or whirl to the melody in a filmy, billowy style. And there is a vari- ety in materials this year for every taste.; .- The campus trend this season is the casual look, be it for parties or dances.; Mix and match is the keyword for the coed as it is, both inexpensive andingood, taste. The "basic" dress in simple lines is a must to complete the wardrobe. t A 9 l J i i BRACELETS .. .brighten the outfit SEMI-FORMAL' ... for big occasions Coeds Lean To Dairtiness In Jewelryt Daintiness dominates the theme1 of campus jewelry. The circle pin, of course, is still favorite, but scatter and novelty pins are seen on many a sweater. Even stick pins are gaining promi- nence as an important piece of jewelry. Bracelets with dangles, semi- precious stones, and real coins are! often worn together on one arma when they are all of the same basic metal. Even gold and silver bracelets are toned down into dainty, small styles. A single pearl or charm is usu- ally worn on a plain chain with sweaters for classes, and bibs and ropes are seen for dressier occa- sions. Chains and beads are re- placing the chokers which were so popular last year. Snake type and pearl rings are becoming increasingly. popular. The general trend among the coeds, is towards more colorful jewelry of conservative size. Fall Fashions To Offer More Smaller Styles This year the clothes market is emphasizing clothes for junior fig- ures, especially in the way of date dresses, the manager of a large local clothing store said recently. Junior buyers have encouraged manufacturers for some time to make more fasions in sizes five and seven, he continued, and this year, for the first time, petite sizes are out in some depth. There is more selection in casual and dressy wool dresses,as. well as in cocktail dresses for the petite girl in Ann Arbor this fall. So the tiny girl can have more fun shopping this year with, such an array of dresses at hand. Slacks and Bermuda shorts are perennial campus favorites. This year's selection includes traditional tartan plaids - Mac- Gregor, Campbell, MacDonald, Stewart - and the always popu- lar solid colors. Muted plaids in soft shades of green; rose and brown are as fash- ionable this year as last. But many not-so-muted plaids are also be- ing shown. Fire-engine red, yel- low, black, and an especially bril- liant blue in large, unusual plaids will encourage many a Michigan coed into doing hip-reducing ex- ercises. Tweed bermudas and slacks seem to be increasing in popular- ity. Bermudas come in soft, multi- colored tweeds (mossy greens pre- dominate) and in smart-looking black - and - white herringbone tweed. This year's "something differ- ent" in leisure-time wear (for those of you who happen to have some leisure time) seems to be bermudas and slacks in hounds- tooth check. They come in very attractive colors-and are a welcome change from plaids and charcoal gray. Corduroy, is also a little differ- ent this year -- wider ribbed and richer looking - and belted with a twine-like material. Brown is the most frequent color - from beige, gold, rust to chocolate., Extra-slim slacks come in bright colors and, all-over patterns. Some even have one-thread stripes. And one pair looked like a, petitpoint Aztec pattern. -Daly-Jim Warne CAMPUS FAVORITES-Kilts and bernmudas in tweeds and tartan plaids are ever popular for casu college wear. Tweeds this year are soft and multicolored. And, as In sport coats this year, loden greg is the predominant color. Houndstooth check is also being shown this year in sportswear, as well a bold, brilliant colored plaids. Both are a welcomed relief from charcoal grey.
