THE MICHIGAN DAILY Mto _.. --- , .. Jon Schopf, who received a leg injury last week, will probably not see action tomorrow, and in his place is husky Jared Bushong. Other doubtfuls are halfback Wil- bert Franklin and guard Lee Hall. Bushong, a high school sensa- tion from Toledo DeVilbiss, was given the opportunity after a fine showing in last " week's game against Oregon State. He played a total of 30 minutes as a replace- ment at tackle. Since grade school, Bushong has played in organized football. in high school, he received state honors along with DeVilbiss which was given nation-wide attention for its outstanding unbeaten rec- ord. Both Bushongs, Jared and halfback Reid, contributed to the school's fine showing. Jared, the elder Bushong, then entered West Point. and added to his experience playing plebe foot- ball. Finally the culmination was reached when he entered Michigan three years ago. Bushong has played tackle for a total of 166 minutes for the Wolverines with most of the time coming last year. This season he was out for the first two games because of a hip r 4Aufic e'RCQVUILM .-.-:. -.- - .:-.- n ---.. . . . . . . . ..'.'. . .'.-;'.-. B-Y. - -rh -a- -r ... ... But now he is back in top shape. After practice Bushong said "If we can keep scrapping as we have been for the past week and if morale remains high, we will provide good opposition for any- one." Meanwhile, yesterday's practice was almost a disasterous one for Michigan. Captain George Genyk, who re- ceived a dozen stitches over his left eye last week, incurred another blow on the same spot as he blocked a punt in the scrimmage game. Genyk went crashing through the line with his hands in the air and the punt went sailing into the sore spot. But the stitches held although his eye puffed up quite a bit. After practice Elliott said, "Northwestern's a good ball club and it will take much more than spirit and morale to beat them. If we play at 100 per cent efficiency and keep our high spirits, the squad will be hard to beat." Soeer Club Will, Play r This Weekend Midhigan's Soccer Club plays host tomorrow to Ohio Wesleyan University at 11 a.m. on Wines Field before the big game at the Stadium. Mircea Oprea, team captain, urges fans to come to the corner of Hill and Division on their way to the Michigan football game and watch his boys run through their paces against the invaders from Ohio. The Soccer Club lost its opener to Wheaton College by a 4-2 mar- gin on September 26, and will be out to even its slate. "Five of the Michigan players starred in the Detroit Soccer League last week," Oprea said. Oprea, also a captain of the White Stags in Detroithas Augus- tine Matson from Venezuela, Suha Alpayli from Turkey, and Bernard Levrat as teammates on the Stags, too. Another team member, Bob Burnett from Switzerland, plays for the St. Andrews Scots in the Detroit League. LOST AND FOUND LOST-1 navy blue purse, size 8x10, containing wallet, glasses, checkbook. By BUZ STEINBERG "The best in the West" is a phrase often quoted on the Michi- gan campus, and this connotation can easily be applied to the school's sailing team. The 'M' sailing squad has earned the respect of all competitors in the midwest, besides having been recognized as one of the nation's finest crews. Last season the Wol- verines sailed to continuous vic- tories until the Midwest Cham- pionships and the Big Ten Cham- 'pionships when the sailors were pushed to the runner-up position. Ironical Losses Ironically, the Wolverines lost both regattas to a strong Indiana crew, however the Hoosiers were left behind when Michigan faced them in regular season competi- tion. Also, the M' sailors gained revenge in the Collegiate Nationals as the Indiana contingent fell out of the running. This season Notre Dame and Wisconsin have joined the ranks . ST ATE STREET I I." of contending midwest crews. With. Michigan, the third party to this year's triumverate, the other 19 sailing teams in the midwest have more than they can handle. To supplement the regular re- gatta schedule, Michigan will also- be facing eastern sailing clubs. The Wolverines have entered in the War Memorial Regatta at An- napolis, Maryland. Then the Tim- me Angsten Memorial Regatta will be held in Chicago in which four, east coast schools are invited to participate. Incidentally, Michigan is defending champion in the An- gesten races. Already, this season the Wol- verines sailing team has had two firsts and a second, the latter oc- curred last weekend at Wisconsin. Second to Badgers Wisconsin captured the regatta with 72 points, while Michigan with 66 points and Notre Dame with 61 points ran behind. Wayne State, Ohio State and Marquette finished in that order, respectively. At the end of the first day in the two-day regatta the Irish and Badgers each held a slim two- point margin over Michigan. Otto Scherer skippered the 'A' division while Jim King and John Clark alternated as skippers in 'B' com- petition for the Wolverines. Meet This Weekend Today and tomorrow Michigan will host a competitive meet with Notre Dame at Base Line Lake near Portage Lake. This is strictly a team race in which three skip- pers from each school are trying to better the other by tactical and strategic maneuvers. This will re- place the usual set-up by which one skipper heads a complete Crew. Also next weekend, there will be another regatta here. This precedes six more regattas that the Michigan sailing team will be participating in this year.
