Thereport referred to the Joint Judiciary Council's constitution, which provides that Joint Judic shall have jurisdiction over "dis- putes involving organized student groups." ' The questions which had arisen after homecoming involved the procedure used in the approval of display petitions by the Homecom- ing Central Committee and in the selection of organizations to re- ceive concessions. The Council also passed a mo- tion recommended by the commit- tee giving the Union and League full administrative authority over homecoming. In other action, SOC approved JIFC Elects New Officers . The newly elected officers of the Junior Interfraternity Council are James M. Apple, Jr., '63E, presi- dent, Sigma Nu; Eugene A. Hand, Jr., '63, vice-president, Alpha Del- ta Phi; Arthur M. Barnett, '63E, secretary, Alpha Epsilon Pi; Paul K. Strickland, '63, treasurer, Chi Psi. the scheduling of Willopolitan for Spring Vacation. One bus has been added to the schedule to the air- ports, and two buses will be run back from the terminals. Plan Cellular Conference A series of 13 speakers have been scheduled to speak here for a conference on "Molecular Con- trol of Cellular Activity." The lectures will take place be- tween March 1 and April 28 in the amphitheatre of the Medical Sci-' ence Building. All sessions of the conference will begin at 4 p.m. The series of speakers is spon- sored by the Institute of Science and Technology. The first speaker of the confer- ence will be embryologist Paul Weiss of the Rockefeller Institute in New York. His subject will be "From Cell to Molecule." The first part of the conference will feature talks on the psycho- logical approach to the subject and will concern the relation of cellular structure to cellular func- tions. The second part of the series will study the influence of genes on cells. Molecular biology will be discussed by the third set of speakers. AWARDS: Freshmen Win Twelve Ilopwoods Twelve University freshmen re- ceived Hopwood Awards for crea- tive writing totaling $390 yester- day. Awards in fiction, poetry and essay were presented by Prof. Arno L. Bader of the English depart- ment at 5 p.m. yesterday at the Conference Room, Angell Hall. Judges were Professor Bader and Prof. Kenneth T. Rowe. Top winner in the fiction divi- sion was Judith Oppenheim, who received $50 for "End of Summer." J. Penelope Schott won $30 for "The Other Carla," and Bradford G. White received $20 for "An Intellectual Rises in Spain." Patricia Hooper received top honors and $50 in the poetry divi- sion for "Ten New Poems." A prize of $30 went to Frances E. Man- nard for "Study of an Apple." Three awards of $20 each were given in poetry. They went to Richard A. Ogar for "Six Poems"; Miss Schott (fiction winner); and Ann Reinach for "Poetry." Essay division top awards of $50 each went to Ann Goldschmidt for "The Song of a Nightingale,"'and Jerold D. E. Lax for "Hear, Oh Israel."
