Opera Short
On Dwarf's
"There's a need for dwarfs in
the 'Das Rheingold' cast," Dick
Lutz, business manager for the
speech department theatre, said.
The cast needs several short
people to fill these roles, he ex-
plained.
They are non-speaking roles.
The dwarfs come on stage and
run off screaming. It's really very
simple."
"No, you don't have to have pre-
vious stage experience. We're plac-
ing a premium on small scale
quality."
Anyone who is interested should
call Prof. J. E. Bender's office,
NO 3-1511, Ext. 2444, or the
speech department office NO
3-1511, Ext. 3048, or leave a note
at Rm. 2020, Frieze Building.
The music school speech de-
partment production of Wagner's
"Das Rheingold," opens Tuesday,
March 1, and runs through the
following Saturday. The curtain
will go up promptly at 8 p.m. at
the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre,
and there will be no intermissions
during the two-hour performance.
The audience is urged to be
there before curtain time, since
no one will be seated after the
curtain rises.
The speech department is of-
fering the libretto of "Das Rhein-
gold," at fifty cents a copy. It is
an English translation revised by
Prof. Josef Blatt of the music
school and musical director of the
production.
The libretto is available at the
speech department office, or a
check can be mailed to Libretto,
Department of Speech.

and German at a college. and a
local high school, is in the United
States on a grant from the State
Department and the Committee
on Leaders and Specialists of the
American Council on Education.
He is observing language classes
at the University's English Lan-
guage Institute this week.
Shortly after arriving in Uber-
aba two years ago, he explained,
he visited the wildfire hospital. "I
saw many horrible things in the
war, but nothing like this," he
said.
Cause Unknown
The tropical disease affects
mainly the inland population, and
is not contagious. Although its
cause is unknown, wildfire re-
sponds eventually to treatment
with cortisone-base drugs.
Since his first visit to the hos-
pital the citizens of Uberaba have
been spending less time on the
city's many social activities, and
doing instead whatever they can
as private individuals for the pa-
tients,
Need Checkups
Most cases remain there for
about a year, but must return for
monthly checkups after their re-

lease, since wildfire frequently re-
curs.
The Binational Institute, he
said, is self-supporting and re-
ceives no government aid from
either Brazil or the U.S., although
the U.S. Information Service
(USIS) often provides maps,
movies and books for the Insti-
tute's library.

by Robert Mallett.
It will show the university in
