Applications for the fellowships may now be obtained from the faculty members in charge of each program. Five fellowships in language and area studies of Southern Asia are being handled by Prof. Robert I. Crane of the history department.] Four in solid state physics (semiconductors) have been allo- cated to Prof. James C. Mouzon of the electrical engineering de- partment and two in comparative' education - European program - are under the direction of Prof. Claude A. Eggertsen of the educa- tion school. To Study Systems Prof. Louis F. Kazda, of the electrical engineering department, is in charge of two fellowships for study of adaptive control systems engineering, and Prof. Gardner Ackley, chairman of the economics department, is handling two grants for the study of develop- ment economics. Prof. Joseph E. Rowe, of the electrical engineering department, will direct the awarding of two grants for the study of plasma physics. Investigation of comparative education in East and South Asia has been established as a part of the fellowship program, with two grants to be administered under the direction of Prof. Ronald S. Anderson, of the education school. Five Communication Grants Five grants for the study of communication sciences will be available, with Prof. Gordon E. Peterson, of the speech and - elec- trical engineering departments and director of the Speech Re- search Laboratory, handling them. Each of the fellowships, with an average of three years duration, provides about $2,000 for the first year, $2,200 for the second and $2,400 for the third year of study. An additional $400 per year for each dependent is allowed. The NDEA Graduate Fellowship Program has been established to# assist graduate students who are interested in teaching in the na- tion's colleges and universities. Lists Requirements All applicants must meet re- quirements specified by the NDEA, including: 1) The applicant must have earned his bachelor's degree. 2) He must intend to enroll in a full-time course of study lead- ing to a Ph.D., or equivalent de- gree. 3) He must be acceptable to the institution to which he applies for admission. 4) Normally, he may not have completed more than one-halfr year of study beyond the bache- lor's degree.
