SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1960 THE MICHIGAN DAIT* tpso v y ___ _ _ __ rAx U' President Discusses Book of Job (Continued from Page 1) instead look for the germ or or- ganism causing the disease," Pres- ident Hatcher explained. Then President Hatcher con- sidered the form and style of the work, calling it "a poetic creation done loosely in dramatic form," and mentioning that it could be given as a play. He said that the prose prologue and epilogue were probably much later in origin than the rest of the Book, and called the prologue "purely a literary device to get the story going." The prologue explains that the ills besetting Job are merely a test by the Devil, while the major part of the work treats Job and his three friends' reactions to the evils, and the epilogue discloses how Job finally benefits. President Hatcher then cited Job's attitude of continually ques- tioning as the main point of the Book, and mentioned the Lord's commendation of Job for taking this point of view and condemna- tion of the three friends with their rigid attitudes.
